8 Music Performance Certificate Programs

The Mission of the Music Department is to provide students the means to accomplish their goals in music with an educational program that prepares them to contribute as artists, educators, audience members, and supporters of the arts. Our standard is to meet the cultural, educational, and social needs of the community through excellent musical performances, school visitations, workshops, and masterclasses. At the heart of the department are outstanding arts experiences, superior teaching, and access to an aesthetic learning education. Prepares individuals for a career in music as performers. Fulfills a portion of the Associate of Arts degree in Music.

This curriculum offers an opportunity to develop skills in specific performance or technical areas, creating a broad based historical and theoretical background as applied to the commercial music field. The Santa Barbara City College Music Department offers a comprehensive program aimed at reaching each student of music, both major and non-major alike. It provides the music major with a thorough basis in the creative (theory, composition, interpretation) and recreative (performance, applied music, history and appreciation) realms of musical endeavor and enjoyment. For those interested in the commercial music field, the department offers courses in jazz, sound recording and electronic music, song writing and arranging. Non-majors seeking a better understanding of music can participate in performance groups and classes in theory, history and instrumental instruction, among others.

The Independent Artist Program at Musicians Institute (MI) offers educational experience for singers, songwriters, DJs, producers, rappers, and instrumentalists seeking to control their artistic destiny in the music market. This equips students with the technical knowledge and professional skills.

Since the founding of Midland College’s Allison Fine Arts Building in 1978, our music program has offered a full range of courses and performing opportunities. The Department of Music welcomes students from any field of study to participate in one or more of our music ensembles, history, appreciation, instrumental, theory and/or vocal music courses.

The Performance Fundamentals Certificate program was implemented to help students prepare for work in an instrumental or vocal performance-related field.

MI’s 4-quarter Artist/Producer/Entrepreneur Certificate program provides the technical knowledge and professional skills you need to survive as an independent recording and performing artist.

The Voice & Opera Certificate Program integrates the highest standards in voice training and musical coaching with comprehensive and challenging dramatic preparation. Students will work together with internationally renowned teachers and artists.
