Canadian Studies Kings minor program in Canadian Studies provides students with a well rounded selection of courses pertaining to Canadian society, culture, politics, history and economics. The minor introduces students to the deeper undercurrents and driving forces behind our current life in Canada such as federalism, colonialism and the countrys incredibly diverse landscape.

The Certificate in First Nations Language consists of 10 courses (30 credit hours) and offers a program that allows individuals to pursue an interest in First Nations language through a concentrated program of courses on a particular language.

VIU’s Proficiency in Language and Culture certificate is a two-year program that merges reading, writing and oral practice with culture and literature in your chosen language specialization. Choose from French, Spanish, Japanese or Chinese (Mandarin) language courses to give you a competitive advantage in career and business and a better understanding of how to connect with people you are dealing with.

Program is a certificate in Translation available in 12 languages of English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, Arabic, Turkish, Russian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. Applicants may study certification programs in two or three languages, as they desire. The entire program is 200 hours of theory, reading, assignments, and various translation projects completion. Language Proficiency Exam is required from applicants in their selected languages of a Translation program.

This program is focused on improvement in grammar skills with a multi-skills focus on reading, writing, and communication skills essential in an academic setting. A review of English grammar through intensive written and oral practice to promote accurate and appropriate language use for students who have already studied grammar to basic level and need to refine the ability to produce acceptable academic English.

The purpose of this certificate is to provide enhanced preparation for individuals wishing to teach within the French Immersion program. This program is for current Bachelor of Education students, or for persons who have already completed their BEd (at Crandall or elsewhere), including those who may already be teaching.
