Geographic information science (GIS) is a relatively new field that uses computer technology to link maps to digital data. Resource managers and urban planners rely on the expertise of GIS technicians when they are making critical decisions about asset management, environmental assessment, development, and harvest. GIS skills are applicable in any organization that maintains assets in the environment.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a method of using data gathered from various sources, including Global Position Satellite (GPS) systems, to develop "layers" of information about a geographic location. Applications are used in mapping streets, utilities, environmental markers, crime studies, and many other types of physical and societal information. It is an emerging industry that also has emerging career opportunities.

Geographic information systems (GIS) has been developing rapidly and increasingly become a vital part in government policy-making, and industrial applications. The Certificate in Geographic Information Systems is designed to provide students with the fundamental principles and cutting-edge techniques in GIS and related technology. Upon completion of the certificate, students are well equipped with necessary knowledge and skills for their GIS or GIS-related career. Requirements (22 - 23 units).

In addition to a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, AUM offers a GIS certificate designed to satisfy the educational component for certification by the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI), a nationally and internationally recognized certification organization. Successful completion of five GIS courses will prepare students to employ computer-assisted spatial analyses in various academic professions as well as provide the tools necessary for practical applications in government or the private sector.

Geomatics encompasses the logic, art, science, and technology involved in collecting, managing, and communicating geographically-referenced information in its many forms. The Geomatics Certificate combines the study and immersion within the major developments experienced in geographical information science, geographic information systems, remote sensing, photogrammetry, and global positioning systems by linking theories and science to experiences that intersect hardware, software, equipment, algorithms, and techniques.

The principal objective of this study programme is to introduce the main components of geoeconomic analysis and economic intelligence. The course adopts an interdisciplinary approach that incorporates economic, financial, geographic, demographic, historic, cultural and political factors, in order to examine the geoeconomic aspects of contemporary International Relations.

Geography is one of the subjects that Marlborough offers throughout the Prep School and Senior School and forms part of the Humanities department and is part of ‘Individuals and Societies’ (Group 3) option for the IB Diploma. One of the benefits of Geography is its multi-disciplinary nature which examines, links and supports many concepts and ideas from other subject areas. The main aim of the department is to develop pupils’ skills such as critical thinking, data analysis and extended writing.
