The Applied Accounting Certificate Program teaches students the accounting standards and principles needed to carry out the fundamental tasks of the accounting occupation – providing information to clients by preparing, analyzing, and verifying financial documents. This continuing education program is also designed to meet the accounting subjects educational requirements for students preparing to sit for the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination (CPA Exam) without seeking an advanced degree.

The Accounting Specialist curriculum provides the entry-level knowledge, skills, and experience required for accounting and tax preparation employment.

This course introduces financial accounting concepts and principles and includes the recording and reporting of business transactions, completion of the accounting cycle as well as the preparation and interpretation of financial statements. The objectives of accounting are explored considering users of financial statements and an introduction to accounting standards - IFRS and ASPE. Topics include the accounting for cash, accounts receivable, inventory and payroll liabilities.
