The 58-unit Bachelor of Science in Visual Communication Design encompasses and integrates graphic design and interactive design while offering additional study addressing advanced concepts and a changing technological landscape. Students are prepared to collaborate with other design disciplines in technology, user experience, and creative problem-solving.

Visual language plays a critical role in the fields of arts, design, and architecture. It is a communication tool used by artists, designers, and architects to convey their ideas, concepts, and emotions to their audiences.In the arts, visual language is used to create visual art forms such as paintings, sculptures, and installations. The way that content is designed and displayed is an important and fast-evolving component of the information revolution. MTSU students enrolled in this concentration learn how to work with current technology used in both digital and print design, while also studying theories and practices of visual communication. Topics range from traditional typography to interactive design. The main emphasis of the visual communication program is on visual storytelling through various forms of publication design. This can include print and interactive media that delivers the information, opinion, and entertainment via magazines, newsletters, brochures, websites, and mobile apps.

The Digital Arts & Design bachelor of science degree program provides a comprehensive look at the entire design process – from concept to creation and from presentation to implementation. Throughout the curriculum, you'll explore the foundational elements of 2D and 3D art theory, utilize hardware and software used by current design professionals, and hone your own eye for visual messaging.

The visual arts education degree equips you to teach visual art to children in grades K-12 within a public or private school setting. This degree also prepares you for further graduate study. The School of Education offers you the opportunity to travel to Haiti for one week to experience global education. This will equip you to teach in diverse communities. You can also study in China over spring break or go on a Civil Rights Pilgrimage with other education students.
