Bachelor of Science (B.S.) - Agricultural Education (Secondary Education) - The curriculum in secondary education is for students seeking careers teaching agriscience in middle and high schools. Graduates are eligible to apply for the agricultural education teaching license in North Carolina. Students majoring in this concentration will also have to be admitted to the College of Education’s Teacher Education Program at N.C. Wildlife science is the application of ecological knowledge in a manner that strikes a balance between the needs of wildlife populations and the needs of people. Coursework and faculty expertise span the animal kingdom and the planet, with a programmatic emphasis on North American species, policies, and practices.  The focus is applied ecology, and students gain the skills, knowledge, and abilities required to meet contemporary and future challenges facing wildlife such as restoring habitat, securing populations of rare and vulnerable species, mitigating human-wildlife conflicts, controlling invasive species and disease, managing sustainable harvests, and ensuring species persistence under climate change.

laboratory animal science is a fascinating, relatively new field of applied science which deals with the biology of animal models used in biomedical research, and their relationships to man and other animal species in regard to health and disease prevention. It offers career opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry, in government regulatory agencies, and in research and development organizations. The B.S. in Laboratory Animal Science is the degree of choice for students who are interested in pre-vet, pre-med, and preparation for advanced studies in human and animal health-related areas. Graduates also emerge with leadership skills in the area of animal welfare. The degree is the only program of its kind in North Carolina.

Biochemistry merges the chemical, biological and physical sciences to explain biological processes on a molecular level, preparing you for immediate employment in medical, industrial, and government positions (scientists, lab technicians, research assistants, and chemists), a professional degree program (medical, dental, veterinary, pharmaceutical, genetic counseling, and other clinical or health professions), or a graduate degree program (biochemistry, chemistry, and biology).

As part of NSU's preprofessional programs, the study of chemistry provides excellent preparation for medical, dental, veterinary, or chiropractic school admission. It also prepares students to attend graduate school or work in the chemical industry. NSU chemistry students pursuing the chemistry major have the option of taking courses in analytical, biochemistry, organic, chemical education, environmental, and physical chemistry, or material science.
