Mathematical modeling can be used to predict transmission rates of diseases, streamline manufacturing, and project passenger demand to produce flight schedules for airlines. The Nutrition Science program is a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) comprised of 128 semester hours of coursework related to science, food, nutrition, and dietetics. The nutritional science program offers a broad-based curriculum anchored in liberal arts and dedicated to evidenced-based coursework and relationship-centered practice. North Central's nutritional science degree will prepare students for supervised practice programs and careers as registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) or as entry-level professionals in fields related to health promotion, food service, and the food industry. Students pursuing a bachelor's degree may also choose to use the nutrition science major to prepare for graduate nutrition programs or other graduate programs in health care or science. The demand for nutrition professionals is increasing in many sectors, as awareness grows of the importance of food and nutrition for health, wellness, and disease prevention in the wider population. Pursue (3-2) dual degree engineering option and earn two degrees in only five years through collaborations with other universities and engineering courses. As an engineering student, you'll get the small school experience for your first three years at North Central, where you'll complete core science, math, and engineering courses and earn a bachelor of science degree in chemistry or engineering physics. Then complete a second bachelor of science degree in your engineering specialty in two years at a partner university.

An exercise science degree will prepare you for a career as an exercise professional in the rapidly growing world of health, fitness, and human performance. Its broad-based curriculum balances the applied art of fitness programming with the scientific fundamentals of anatomy and physiology. North Central’s exercise science program is also recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Students in the major are prepared for careers in strength and conditioning, medical fitness, corporate fitness and wellness, personal training, and human performance. Many students choose to use the exercise science major to prepare for graduate programs in physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, medicine, exercise physiology, chiropractic, or others.

Engineers influence how new technology is created and applied. Mechanical Engineering students get hands-on experience from day one in the engineering method, using the latest engineering design and simulation software, making parts on 3D printers, and programming in Python. You'll dive into the details of materials, manufacturing processes, sensors and actuators, embedded processors, and robot control systems. Rather than concentrating on textbook examples and memorization, you'll practice the same skills that professional engineer uses in their career: solving problems, working in teams, writing reports, and making presentations. Activities include intercollegiate competitions, community engagement, and independent studies.

Our actuarial science program is recognized on the Society of Actuaries listing of Universities and Colleges with Actuarial Programs (UCAP), and we're also one of the few liberal arts institutions with a full-fledged actuarial science major offered jointly by two departments-mathematics and finance. This exposure to "both sides of the house" will vastly heighten, your educational experience and expand job prospects after graduation. And because we keep our classes small, you'll receive all the personal attention you need to prepare for the probability and financial mathematics exams you'll need to pass before working in the field. In the last three years, the pass rates for actuarial exams for our students are between 75 and 90 percent. In addition, students who have passed two exams and have a summer internship by their senior year have 100 percent job placement in the actuary industry.

If it’s electronic, you’ll know how it gets its information, how it’s programmed, and what makes it respond. You'll practice the same skills and fundamentals that you'll use in your career: how to solve problems, analyze and interpret data, work in teams, write reports and make presentations. School activities include intercollegiate competitions, community engagement, and independent studies.
