Bachelor of Science (B.S.) - Agricultural Education (Secondary Education) - The curriculum in secondary education is for students seeking careers teaching agriscience in middle and high schools. Graduates are eligible to apply for the agricultural education teaching license in North Carolina. Students majoring in this concentration will also have to be admitted to the College of Education’s Teacher Education Program at N.C. Wildlife science is the application of ecological knowledge in a manner that strikes a balance between the needs of wildlife populations and the needs of people. Coursework and faculty expertise span the animal kingdom and the planet, with a programmatic emphasis on North American species, policies, and practices.  The focus is applied ecology, and students gain the skills, knowledge, and abilities required to meet contemporary and future challenges facing wildlife such as restoring habitat, securing populations of rare and vulnerable species, mitigating human-wildlife conflicts, controlling invasive species and disease, managing sustainable harvests, and ensuring species persistence under climate change.

The Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry will prepare students for graduate work in chemistry or biochemistry; teaching chemistry in secondary schools; employment with industry or government; entry into professional schools such as medicine or dentistry; or entry into law school with a view toward specialization in patent or environmental law.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers majors leading to a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts Degree. The B.A. Degree also has a Biochemistry Option. laboratory animal science is a fascinating, relatively new field of applied science which deals with the biology of animal models used in biomedical research, and their relationships to man and other animal species in regard to health and disease prevention. It offers career opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry, in government regulatory agencies, and in research and development organizations. The B.S. in Laboratory Animal Science is the degree of choice for students who are interested in pre-vet, pre-med, and preparation for advanced studies in human and animal health-related areas. Graduates also emerge with leadership skills in the area of animal welfare. The degree is the only program of its kind in North Carolina.

As part of NSU's preprofessional programs, the study of chemistry provides excellent preparation for medical, dental, veterinary, or chiropractic school admission.
