Astronomy involves studying the properties, physical nature and origins of the planets, stars, galaxies and universe as a whole. It involves the development of instrumentation, observations of celestial objects with ground- and space-based telescopes, and interpretation of findings using the mathematical laws of physics such as gravity, electromagnetism and quantum mechanics.

In Astrophysics and Astronomy, you apply the laws of physics to study the universe at the largest scales. You study the lifecycles of stars and the formation and evolution of galaxies, including the supermassive black holes that lurk at their centres; explore the formation and evolution of the universe; and learn about the search for planets around other stars.
