DCU offers this four-and-a-half-year course in partnership with health service providers from both the public and private healthcare sectors. You’ll complete several placements in each year of the programme, across adult and children’s hospitals as well as community facilities, along with a 36-week internship in years four and five. Also, the Erasmus+ exchange programme is open for application to all 2nd year nursing students and takes place in semester 1 of 3rd year. You’ll spend half of this course on clinical placements or simulated practice in a variety of settings. These may include an operating theatre, accident and emergency, a community health centre, an intensive care unit, an outpatients department or a nursing home.  

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program is for students who want to become a registered nurse. Through rigorous classes, practice in our simulation labs, and intensive clinical experiences, you'll be prepared to be a nurse generalist with the knowledge and skills to practice in acute and community settings. Upon graduation, you will be eligible to take the national licensure exam (NCLEX-RN) required for practice as a professional registered nurse.

The aim of the program in BSc in Nursing is to train nursing and health care professionals who are able to take part with full responsibility in prevention, treatment, nursing and rehabilitation at all levels of health and social care. Students will acquire knowledge of individual, family, community and public health protection and rehabilitation as well as of health and social services.

The LPN to BSN student will develop and expand knowledge and skills delineated by the professional nurse roles of provider of care, designer/manager/coordinator of care, and member of the profession. Students participate in selected learning activities to develop an understanding of the art and science of nursing. The program provides an educational foundation for continued nursing study at the graduate level. Graduates of the LPN-BSN track are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses NCLEX-RN®.
