The Medical Laboratory Sciences program is designed for students who are preparing for careers in the health care industry as clinical specialists who perform, evaluate, and oversee biological and chemical testing in a clinical setting. In the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program, students will learn not only how to perform diagnostic and analytic tests, but also how to interpret the resulting analysis. Some areas of Medical Laboratory Sciences include Hematology, Immunology, Bacteriology, Parasitology, Clinical Chemistry, Blood Banking, Toxicology, and Health Care Management.

The Department of Health and Exercise Science focuses on the fundamental principles of health and the effects physical activity has on the human body. The degrees are designed to help students competitively enter the job market and/or pursue graduate students in a health and exercise science-related field. The Health & Exercise Science Department works to prepare students to be highly qualified teachers and community leaders in health promotion and physical education; qualified instructors for fitness centers, and corporate wellness programs, along with sport and recreation program directors. In each of our programs, the faculty are committed to developing professionals who will impact the health and wellness of children, adolescents, and adults from a Christ-centered worldview.

The mission of the Division of Nursing is to offer courses of professional study from a Christian perspective that builds upon the liberal arts to prepare safe, competent generalist nurses who will collaborate with members of the healthcare team to provide holistic, evidence-based, patient-centered care. The mission is congruent with the Louisiana Christian University mission to provide a liberal arts education to honor and serve Jesus Christ. Furthermore, the mission is congruent with the AACN’s Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for professional nurses.

For students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree in any field, Louisiana Christian University offers an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing that allows the completion of nursing courses in 17 months. Students who enroll in this option will only need to complete the courses required for the completion of the BSN degree. Block credit will be given for the general education courses from the earned bachelor’s degree. The ABSN requires 31 hours of non-nursing pre-requisite courses that must be completed with a grade of a “C” or better prior to entering nursing courses. Based on the coursework completed in the earned bachelor’s degree, some substitutions may be allowed for the required courses, i.e., psychology, math statistics, etc. The ABSN has a total of 63 credit hours that must be earned in addition to the non-nursing pre-requisites.
