The Film Studies minor considers a variety of approaches to understanding the role of film in all its different forms and intents. A film may have predominantly literary content or may be specifically engaged with historical, political, or cultural concerns. It may also be primarily an abstract, aesthetic work, exploring alternatives to traditional narrative filmmaking. It is fundamentally a medium used to examine and study human knowledge and exploration. It is tightly interwoven into cultural identity throughout the world.

Today, Hollywood is at the centre of a multi-billion dollar global industry and film is rightly recognised as a form of art in itself.

This major educates students in different theories and practical applications of communication skills such as interpersonal communication, small group communication, public speaking, nonverbal communication and persuasion. Communication Studies also makes an excellent pre-law, pre-seminary or pre-graduate school program.

With courses in lighting, editing, directing, audio and videography, the New England School of Communications (NESCom) video/film production program prepares students to step into the workforce with hands-on experience using industry-standard equipment. Are you ready to enhance your visual storytelling skills? Earn your Bachelor of Science in Film Production. As a student, you’ll be exposed to every stage of film production through a theoretical and gear-centric curriculum. Our Bachelor of Science in Film Production Degree with a concentration in Directing is 120 credit hours and 36 months in length.

The Bachelor of Science in Film program is designed to provide students with not only knowledge and understanding of film theory, but also hands-on experience in the skills and craft needed to qualify for entry-level industry positions. Graduates are trained to work as independent filmmakers, production assistants, editors, sound designers, assistant directors, unit production managers, art directors, video editors, lighting technicians, director’s assistants, dialogue editors and a variety of other positions in the film and video industry.

The Bachelor of Science in film & television equips students to work in various positions within the creative and production teams of film and television. With a strong focus on storytelling, students will learn how to convey their thoughts and ideas in ways that connect with an audience. They will also learn from experienced professors how to take creative ideas and make them flourish.

Artistic sensibility, knowledge and experience are the foundations of thoughtful filmmaking. Our film production curriculum nurtures these characteristics by encouraging students to engage in the cycle of practice, reflection and refinement built into making movies. From your first semester through your final year, you’ll use state-of-the-art equipment and learn about the latest workflow practices within the context of the aesthetics, ethics and traditions of filmmaking.
