UCA's cross-disciplinary Earth and Environmental Sciences program integrates the study of socio-cultural, ecological, and geological systems to create informed and engaged leaders and scholars. The program draws on the vast diversity of life experiences, environmental zones, and cultures in Central Asia's mountainous regions.

The Water Resources & Geo-Environmental Sciences program is the first and currently the only undergraduate major offered in Lebanon.

Environmental Science and Sustainability Students in Environmental Science and Sustainability have an interest in science and environmental issues. The degree concentrates on topics involving environmental sustainability, an established ideology that promotes environmentally-conscious living and development. Courses will discuss local and global environmental topics from a social, political, economic and ethical perspective, giving students the necessary comprehensive approach in dealing with the UAE’s complex environmental challenges. This is driven by the changing 21st-century landscape, where climate change, the need for efficient use of limited natural resources including energy and water, biodiversity loss, and deteriorating living conditions involving transportation, food safety, health, and other issues demand environmentally friendly solutions. Courses will impart knowledge and skills in all basic sciences, and research, as well as the analysis of environmental and sustainability problems, and the development of strategies to address these.

Explaining the phenomena of life at the molecular level in the organisms that form ecosystems The Earth is home to a vast variety of living organisms, which comprise rich ecosystems that exist in harmony with the environment. The Environmental Biology Course conducts research with the goal of understanding how organisms recognize the environment in ecosystems and harmonize their activities using the language of molecules. For example, the course covers research into the mechanisms by which animals recognize and respond to external stimuli such as light, and research into the effects of endocrine disruptors flowing into rivers, lakes, and marshes on fish and other wildlife and the mechanisms by which those effects are carried out. Other projects in which department are enthusiastically involved include research into the mechanisms of plant environmental recognition and plant immunity to pathogenic bacteria, research into the physiological mechanisms of microorganisms and the control of their lifespans, and research into the various physiologically active substances that are created by organisms in the environment. We consider research in areas such as these to provide a basis for maintaining ecosystems that are rich in life into the indefinite future.
