The Bachelor of Science in General Biology is ideal for students with broad interests in the life sciences. The general biology program allows students to sample courses from marine biology, ecology, and molecular biology to discover their own areas of emphasis. Undergraduates can then easily switch between the programs offered within the department and graduates in general biology are poised to enter post-baccalaureate programs in any of these areas.

This concentration is for students that want to teach Biology in high school. The School of Natural Science offers the BS in Biology degree for students interested in strong, comprehensive biological studies. As a student in our biology program, you will gain a solid foundational understanding of biology and can explore further fields such as molecular biology, ecology, physiology, and organismal biology. You’ll go deeper in your understanding of biological concepts with supportive studies in mathematics, chemistry, and physics and gain the communication and critical thinking skills, essential to meeting the needs of the times, through general liberal arts study.

This concentration is intended for students that plan to pursue a career in Microbiology and Molecular Biology. The overall educational objective of the biological sciences undergraduate program is to provide students with a conceptual foundation in biology and a skills base necessary to build successful careers in industry or business or to succeed in graduate school or professional school.

The Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences focuses on utilizing scientific knowledge to better understand living organisms and the wonders of God’s world, providing a rigorous curriculum and strong foundation in core biology courses such as general biology, microbiology, and cell biology. Additional course requirements provide a foundation in related fields (chemistry, physics, and mathematics), and provide breadth to the study of biology.

NSU's biology program emphasizes hands-on activities and critical thinking to bring you to a better understanding of the study of life. You'll work one-on-one with caring, supportive faculty who encourage independent thinking skills that will prepare you to become a leader in your biological field. Most upper-level courses have no more than 25 students. Northern's biology faculty members teach their own labs - they'll get to know you as a person.

This concentration is intended for students that plan to pursue a career in most Biology fields where you deal with whole animals or with animal systems, such as Zoology, Histology, and Physiology and is recommended for pre-professional students. The Biology BS provides an excellent liberal arts education with substantial experience in quantitative and analytical thought, along with preparation for related professions. The program provides the strong background necessary not only for graduate study in the life sciences but also enables students to develop careers in a wide variety of disciplines, including teaching, environmental management, microbiology, molecular biology, biotechnology, genetics, wildlife management, fisheries biology, and marine science.

The Biology Department at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown ensures all students receive a broad-based biology education, with core classes in Biology, Ecology and Cell. Students choose upper-division courses from among three areas, including Cellular and Molecular Biology, Organismal Biology, and Ecology and Evolution.
