Agronomy is an understanding of the principles of plant and soil science and an application of these principles in the production of crops. Commercial sector careers include positions in agricultural consulting companies, agricultural seed or chemical companies, research and development with commercial companies, as well as farm and/or ranch management.

Crop and Soil Science students work on solving the most complex agricultural and natural resource problems faced in Oregon, our nation, and across the globe. If you want to help feed the people of Oregon, the United States and the world; or be part of a team exploring biofuels and bioproducts to increase energy independence in the United States; or practice cutting-edge gene research in crop plants or soil microbes; or use your soils knowledge to do remediation work on contaminated sites, the Department of Crop and Soil Science is where you should be.

We generate and apply knowledge about the plants that feed and benefit humankind. Agronomic crops are typically grown for grain to feed people and livestock, or are processed into products. Feed crops are grown specifically to meet the nutritional needs of livestock. Forage crops are grown for their stems, leaves, and other edible plant parts.

Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU) was founded in 1987 as a regional campus of Khon Kaen University and established as a university by Royal Charter in 1990. Feather River College started offering in the Fall of 2016 a bachelor's of science pilot program in equine and ranch management in cooperation with the California Community College Chancellor’s Office. This unique degree combines scientific agricultural ranch management courses with hands-on horse related disciplines that incorporate traditional and progressive performance-horse methods.
