4 Biology Degree Programs in Turkey

The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) is a student-centered credit system based on the student's workload. It is a value that expresses all the work (theoretical course, practice, seminar, individual study, exams, assignments, etc.) that the student must do in order to successfully complete a course. During the implementation phase of the Bologna Process in Turkey, ECTS is one of the most important areas of study. In recent years, many universities in Turkey have intensified their efforts to harmonize their credit and rating systems with ECTS principles.

Biology Program offers courses on the biological, chemical, physical and mathematical principles governing the behaviour of living matter at the molecular, cellular, organism and population levels. Fundamental subjects as molecular and cellular biology, genetics, physiology, microbiology, biochemistry, plant biology and ecology are supplemented by a wide variety of elective courses to prepare the students for careers in research and teaching in university, and for various positions in food and drug industry, agriculture, forestry, and public health. The Biology program allows students to choose an option among molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, and environmental biology fields in their junior year.

In the Sabancı University Molecular Biology, Genetics and Bioengineering program, modern biology problems are studied within the framework of a broad curriculum covering the fields of plant biology, bioinformatics and molecular and cell biology. In our laboratories with a modern infrastructure, our research and development projects are carried out jointly with other biology programs from home and abroad.

Fundamental subjects are molecular and cellular biology, molecular genetics, recombinant DNA technology, physiology, microbiology, biochemistry, plant biology, molecular ecology and evolution. The fundamental courses are supplemented with a wide variety of elective courses to prepare the students for highly demanded contemporary biotech and infotech careers in the research and development activities of the 21st Century.
