In this program, you will conduct your own independent research with access to state-of-the-art equipment in the new science building opened in fall 2020 and recently opened Technology and Innovation building. Thanks to our small classes and collegial atmosphere, you will benefit from individual attention and one-on-one mentorship from our experienced and dynamic faculty, known for their work in cancer biology, developmental biology, ecology and evolution, and molecular biology, funded by a variety of sources including the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Fish and Wildlife Service.

Our Master of Science (MSc) in Forensic Biology is specifically designed for students who wish to consolidate their knowledge in this field further, increasing their specific skills and professional capacity. The program approaches the subject from different perspectives: the ethical-legal and the purely scientific and analytical. The course of study guarantees theoretical training and a solid specialized education obtained through research activities and practical laboratory sessions.

Whether you desire a rigorous background for life sciences, a foundation for healthcare-related careers or an excellent liberal arts education, our biology courses provide you with opportunities to learn in a student-centered environment. You'll get hands-on laboratory and field experiences using investigation methods and experimental techniques that reflect the current state of biological science. In addition to traditional laboratory materials, you'll use DNA and protein electrophoresis, PCR, and other biotechnology equipment in our high-tech laboratories.

Study the effects of natural processes and their interactions with the physical world in this two-year associate program intended to ready you for a transfer to a four-year institution. The Direct Transfer Agreement degree prepares students for upper-division study in the areas of biological sciences, environmental/resource sciences, chemistry, geology, and earth science. 

Biology majors may focus their studies on one of the following areas: cell and molecular biology, ecology/environmental science, bio-medical (for pre-professional students), zoology, bio-education (for students interested in middle and secondary education), or general biology (a personalized program for students with unique interests).

According to O-Net Online, career opportunities in the biological sciences are growing at a rate 10-14% faster than the national average. The Biology program map below includes all of your major coursework and recommended general education courses by term that is needed to fulfill your degree and transfer requirements. This pathway is geared toward students working toward transfer to CSU, but can be used for transfer to University of California (UC) System as well. Those students working toward transfer to UC should take CHE-12A and CHE-12B (Organic Chemistry I and II) instead of or in addition to PHY-2A and PHY-2B.

Biology is a versatile discipline that can be tailored to individual interests and community needs. Our programs will prepare you to transfer to four-year institutions or for direct entry into professional programs, like SCC’s Allied Health and Nursing programs.

The International Doctorate in Structural Biology is an international doctorate in collaboration with the Universities of Frankfurt and Utrecht. It was established with an agreement signed by the three Rectors in 2001. On the basis of this agreement, the PhD title that students obtain at the end of the program is considered equivalent to that obtained at the Bijvoet Center for Biomolecular Research and to the PhD in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of Frankfurt.

The BSc (Hons) Applied Biological Sciences degree offers interdisciplinary training in contemporary biological sciences, including animal and plant biology and biotechnology.

Bachelor of Science in Adolescence Education,Biology students in this earn degrees in both Biological Sciences and Adolescence Education.
