Biodiversity underpins life on Earth. Healthy ecosystems provide ecosystem services essential to human well-being and economic activities. Scientists estimate that one million of the world’s estimated 8 million species of plants and animals are on the verge of extinction, and this could curtail our ability to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.

This programme in Biodiversity, Wildlife and Ecosystem Health will prepare you for a career in conservation, or help existing wildlife and conservation professionals to secure senior roles in specialist areas. Many of our graduates realise their ambitions to change careers, or to take a more active role in promoting the value of nature in their communities and workplaces.

The master's degree in Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Global Change Ecology and Biodiversity Management is part of the GLOBE project. Led by the Universidad Rey Juan  Carlos (Spain) and as participants in the organisation and development are the University of Bangor (UK), the University of Lisbon (Portugal) and the Universidad Autónoma de Tlaxcala (Mexico), as well as various collaborating institutions from various sectors  (consultancies, NGOs, foundations, etc.).

Complex problems require an interdisciplinary approach. Their solutions will not come from a single subject or specialism. At LIS, this interdisciplinary problem-solving is exactly what we do. And our master’s students become experts at it.
