The aim of the proposed graduate research program Environmental Analytical Chemistry and Microbiology (EACM) is to form experts with up-to-date knowledge of advanced analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, molecular biology, and environmental microbiology to elucidate the behavior and fate of contaminants from pollution sources to living organisms, to assess their impacts on ecosystem structure and functioning, and to implement solutions to maintain ecosystems health.

The Biochemistry major will appeal to students whose interests overlap the fields of chemistry and biology. The B.S. degree program in biochemistry is designed to prepare students for careers in biotechnology and scientific work in emerging fields at the interface of biology and chemistry.

In this course, you will be introduced to biochemistry, which is the study of the chemical processes which take place in living cells. People are sometimes deterred from studying this subject by the thought of the chemistry and physics on which it is based. This course aims to show that it is quite possible to achieve an understanding of some of the fundamental concepts of biochemistry without building on a basis of pure science.

Fredonia’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is certified by the American Chemical Society and housed in Fredonia's $60 million Science Center. Tracks available include: general chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, inorganic chemistry and physical chemistry. While some schools may just focus on classroom teaching and others focus on research, at Fredonia you will receive BOTH.
