The finance stream at StFX provides students with solid foundational knowledge, whether they plan to work in the finance industry or pursue higher studies.

Accounting provides the foundation on which business decisions regarding profitability, sustainability and wealth are made.

The Enterprise Systems stream provides students with the critical knowledge and practical skills needed to become systems analysts. A systems analyst is a technology-savvy business professional whose primary function is to help organizations apply the latest technology in order to solve business problems and/or take advantage of business opportunities. The systems analyst works closely with key organizational members (such as senior managers, business functional managers, and employees), suppliers, customers, and technology providers to identify critical business needs and opportunities, and then apply technology to help address such needs and opportunities. Systems analysts must have an interest in the latest technologies and their application, and interact effectively with both business and technical personnel.

The International Business (IB) stream will prepare students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in an international business environment.

Within the Management and Leadership stream, our points of emphasis - and differentiation - are in the areas of ethics, leadership and social responsibility, or all together, responsible management. Graduates can expect to be uniquely knowledgeable about the complexities of managing within an increasingly global social context and the leadership challenges that come with heightened expectations for ethical behavior. Along the way, students will learn more about themselves and the kind of business leader they are and wish to become.

Marketing is about understanding consumers and what they value and creating and communicating solutions to their problems. Marketing is both an art and a science. This is a diverse field where professionals may be involved in the development of new products, services or ideas, analyzing and interpreting Big Data, determining ways to leverage and enhance demand, developing creative content that effectively communicates value, and relationship management.

Our Management & Leadership program is nationally accredited by the Canadian Institute of Management. The program offers dynamic learning experiences which often challenge business as usual. Course instruction draws from a wide range of engaging methods, including service learning projects in community organizations, film and case analysis, debates, simulations, guest lectures, virtual teams, and field trips. Along the way, through critique and reflection, students will learn more about themselves and the kind of business leader they are and wish to become.

The Accounting program is focused on preparing students to earn their Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. The program is designed to provide the courses necessary for students to get all available exemptions for direct entry into the CPA Professional Education Program; these prerequisite courses are recognized by the CPA Atlantic School of Business.

Data analysts use a mix of best practices, specialized technology, and creative problem solving to derive actionable insights from diverse data sources. These insights help businesses become more agile, strategic, and competitive. Bringing together the strengths of two leading business institutions, St. Francis Xavier University and Nova Scotia Community College, this multiple credential program is designed for students who want to accelerate their education in the innovative and rapidly growing field of Business Intelligence and Analytics.

Entrepreneurship is a dynamic program. Students develop new venture plans and pitches, social ventures, and global initiatives. Our students participate in pitch competitions at Schwartz and abroad to develop their business models, raise financing, and network with industry. Schwartz alumni provide support and mentorship to our students, and faculty work one-on-one with aspiring entrepreneurs.

The Finance program will expose students to current theories and applied finance skills and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) affiliated university program. The curriculum will expose students to a wide variety of topics including investments, portfolio management, derivatives, corporate finance, personal finance, international finance, etc.
