The School of Materials Science and Engineering, Yancheng Institute of Technology was founded in 1979. In 1993, the silicate technology major was the first batch of pilot programs for higher engineering teaching reform. In 1996, the major of materials science and engineering began to recruit undergraduates. In 2006, it was awarded the "Specialty of Jiangsu Province". In 2008, it was approved by the Ministry of Education and the Department of Education of Jiangsu Province as the "National Specialty Construction Site" and "Provincial Innovative Experimental Base for Training Models of Higher Education Talents. In 2011, Materials Science and Engineering was approved as “Key Construction Discipline of Jiangsu Province” by the Department of Education of Jiangsu Province. In 2012, Materials Science and Engineering was approved as a key specialty of Jiangsu Province. Listed in the second batch of outstanding engineer education and training programs by the Ministry of Education, approved as a "comprehensive reform pilot" major by the Ministry of Education in 2013, approved as a brand major in Jiangsu Province (Class A) in 2015, and passed the China Engineering Education Professional Certification Association in 2016 Professional certification. In 2019, the material science and engineering major was approved as a first-class undergraduate professional construction project in Jiangsu Province. In 2020, the material science and engineering major passed the professional certification re-evaluation of the China Engineering Education Professional Certification Association. The college has scientific research and innovation platforms such as the Jiangsu University Ecological Building Materials and Environmental Protection Equipment Collaborative Innovation Center, Jiangsu Province New Environmental Protection Key Laboratory, Jiangsu Province Ecological Environmental Materials Key Laboratory, Jiangsu Province Environmental Protection Equipment Public Technical Service Center, Jiangsu Province Straw Ecological Building Material Engineering Center, etc. . Established research directions for environmental protection and energy-saving advanced building materials, functional design and performance control of low-dimensional materials, synthesis and processing of lightweight, high-efficiency and long-life composite materials, and controllable equipment and engineering applications of functional polymer materials. It has a provincial experimental teaching demonstration center-New Materials and Jiangsu Coastal Engineering Construction Experimental Teaching Center.
