The Legal Studies bachelors degree is a 125-credit undergraduate program which prepares you for a variety of different legal professions.

The Pre-Law concentration under the Political Science major is designed for students planning to attend law school or become professional legal assistants. MTSU's Pre-Law program begins with a basic study of government and encompasses courses in speech, logic, economics, and legal research and writing. Law careers see continued growth due to the complexity of the legal system and people's tendency to seek legal remedies for problems.

Our pre-professional law program will guide and prepare you. It’s an advising program that provides resources and guidance to help you assess your interest and readiness for law school. You’ll also benefit from research, experiential and networking opportunities. Pre-law is not actually a major; in fact, you can major in anything you want. There are no required courses. Law schools are more interested in seeing that applicants have developed good writing and critical thinking skills. They are much less concerned with whether or not you’ve learned “the law;” that’s what law school is for!

The goals of this interdisciplinary concentration, which is selected in addition to an academic major, are to affirm the intellectual importance of the study of law and society and to provide a framework whereby faculty and students may explore different approaches to law by using the resources of one or more disciplines.
