Political Science addresses some of the fundamental problems facing human society. The general purpose of the major is to address these and other similar important issues in a multidisciplinary way, and, simultaneously, to expose students to think critically and reason analytically about the constantly evolving political landscape in Asia compared to the rest of the world.

For many observers and visitors, Japan is one of the most intriguing countries on earth. For them, Japan offers a vast variety of exhilarating and sometimes puzzling experiences that often give rise to many questions. Japan Studies endeavors to answer most, if not all, of them. Japanologists understand their field as an interdisciplinary project that engages with all aspects of Japanese culture, history, and society. Many students and scholars investigate these topics in relation to historical and present-day events in East-Asia and the West. Such an approach relates their study and research not only to other disciplines but also to other nations, civilizations, and geographic areas.

Upon successful completion of the study program students receive an international private Bachelor degree awarded by the school's headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, based on the recommendation of the faculty of the local campuses where credits were earned.

Those who desire to study Japan from an international perspective so become global leaders with a deep understanding of Japan, or who seek to contribute to the advancement of multilingual and multicultural societies in Japan and elsewhere. The School of Japan Studies offers the opportunity to study and discover Japan comprehensively and from international perspectives.

Cultivating strong intellectual capacity with a global perspective The main purpose of the Department of International Relations Law is to foster human resources who (1) have a wide perspective who do not adhere too closely to one specific viewpoint, (2) can exchange and share opinions with people who have different ways of thinking, and can work together with such people in tackling various problems that we currently face, and (3) can maintain an international perspective and standpoint, using international relations law as one of the core. In the past, "international" relations were considered something "outside of Japan", but now, triggered by issues such as environmental matters, it is little by little being recognized that our daily lives are closely connected with matters outside Japan or global issues. The Department of International Law aims to allow students to acquire the ability to succeed in international society, and at the same time, to exert such ability in local communities by effectively introducing an international perspective.

This course covers: 　•Theories on welfare and systems of the law, techniques of counseling 　•Dealing with the trends and issues of social welfare today 　•Solving the problems on local social welfare co-operating with the local government and people.

After learning the basics of economics, the course is divided into a course that focuses on business administration, which is indispensable for corporate management, and a course that focuses on law, which is useful for administrative and legal-related practices. Social work is an academic field that pursues theories and ways to encourage individuals, groups and society so that all people will be given respect and change their lives for the better. This division prompts proactive learning and offers a learning environment for students to acquire practical knowledge. It also offers diverse practice opportunities each year with an emphasis on direct involvement with welfare service beneficiaries so that students can refine their problem identification and problem-solving skills. Through the programs, students aspire to become competent social workers who can work together with diverse professions while also demonstrating their expertise, or become contributing members of society to utilize their knowledge on social welfare in a wide array of fields. Alumni career paths are very diverse. SPU Division of Social Work alumni have been employed in the following fields and demonstrate their capabilities acquired at SPU: the children & family support fields such as the family court and child guidance center; the consultation and lifestyle support field for children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities; public administration in the Japanese government, prefectures, and municipalities; the medical welfare and psychiatric social welfare fields such as general hospitals and psychiatric hospitals; the regional social welfare field such as in social welfare councils and non-profit organizations; and companies in various industries including pharmaceutical, medical equipment, housing, beauty, and education.

Social welfare and mental health welfare professionals are called social workers. The social work major is designed to provide national qualifications and teach the knowledge and skills necessary for becoming a social worker, all while seeking “what happiness is”. A great variety of subjects unique to welfare are available in this program, and students can freely select subjects based on their plans or themes that they want to pursue.

Eiwa has established a Social Welfare Worker Model Course and Child Care Worker, Kindergarten Teacher Model Course. Through small classes of 6 to 7 students for every teacher, students can strengthen their ability to bring people happiness and steadily form various specialist abilities.

Knowing the concept of health and the characteristics of illness/disability is extremely useful for social workers and mental health workers to provide consultation and assistance activities. The common related subjects with the Department of Nursing will give you a wide range of knowledge that will be useful in practice.

Students will study sociology to learn about the role of welfare and health care in an ever-changing society and psychology to better understand the mechanisms of the human mind. Through corporate society and human communication classes, they will also learn communication skills and become proactive in discovering problems and solving them on their own.

Interdisciplinary integration is implemented in the Department of International Political Science and Economics at the Faculty of International Political Science and Economics beyond the framework of traditional departments of politics and economics or existing fields of academic studies.

In order to become a social welfare professional who provides professional support for people with certain difficulties in life in the society, they will systematically learn from the aspects of knowledge, technology, value and attitude.
