If you love cars, trucks, mopeds, or motorsports and enjoy delving under a bonnet, the Bachelor in Automotive Technology is an ideal program for you. This degree is designed for those intrigued by what is moving in the automotive world, and who closely follow the latest trends.

Engineers use their imagination and knowledge of mathematics, physics and chemistry to devise, apply and manage the technologies that are fundamental to the wellbeing and advancement of society. This programme is based on our Mechanical Engineering programme but allows students in the later years to specialise in subjects relating to automotive technology.

Students studying Mechanical Engineering International can choose a specialization in their 4th semester. Students who choose to specialize in Mobility Systems profit from the fact that the automotive industry is Germany’s largest industry sector with a turnover of approximately 404 billion Euros in 2015, covering 20% of Germany`s industry revenues overall. Ten out of the 100 largest automotive suppliers have either their headquarters or one of their subsidiaries near Karlsruhe. At the KIT more than 40 institutes with 800 scientists are conducting research for safer, more comfortable and more efficient cars.

Graduates will demonstrate basic knowledge in mathematics, science, and engineering; the ability to design and conduct experiments, interpret and analyze data, and report results; the ability to design automotive systems or their separate units; the ability to function on engineering and science laboratory teams, as well as on multidisciplinary design teams; the ability to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems; an understanding of their professional and ethical responsibilities.

The interest of the degree is determined by the characteristics of the two basic subjects that constitute it: Automation and Industrial Electronics. These matters have driven an important change in economic activity due to the greater presence of automation and intelligence in increasingly complex processes and products, supported by information technology and communications. Nowadays, a production line cannot be conceived without a high degree of automation and management through computerized methods and integrated at various levels.

The education and training of students of the Bachelor study programme Automotive Production is aimed at gaining theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the field of advanced materials, technologies, and analytical tools in designing car components, organizing their production and assembly with the support of CAx technologies. 

Under this educational program, within the automobile and automotive industry framework, training is carried out in the following sectors: technical maintenance of vehicles, service and corporate maintenance of road transport, management, and audit activities in road transport.
