The School of Art History's BFA program blends academic inquiry and practice with one of the most extensive studios art and design programs in the world. Merging the classical tradition of studying western art with the skills and practice of fine art education, our students gain the unique perspective and ability to discuss broad themes around history's most enduring and inspiring works of art.

Criticism and Curatorial Practice at OCAD University is Canada’s first undergraduate program dedicated to preparing artists to become critics and curators. Alongside critical and curatorial studies, students gain hands-on studio experience by making art themselves, an approach grounded in the belief that practical artistic engagement strengthens work across the art and cultural sector.

The Studio Art/ Art History major provides students with the opportunity to develop their artistic and creative abilities while gaining a global perspective on the arts.

The Art History Option offers students a diversity of exposure to the styles and subjects of cultures and nations of the Western and non-Western world, from prehistoric times to the contemporary era. Particular emphasis is placed on developing the student's ability to critically understand the ideas and imagery found within the art works of various cultures and individual artists and architects.
