A Bachelor of 3D Design and Animation provides the technical skills, creative development and practical experience you need for a career in 3D design and animation. Incorporating industry engagement throughout, this bachelor of animation will prepare you to work as a 3D and visual effects artist and animator.

The programme is devoted to three steps of a process of a movie production: pre-production, production and post-production. Curriculum includes full range detailed courses like: 3D modelling, character animation, particles effects, matte painting or motion design.

Our Bachelor of Animation is New Zealand’s only degree-level course specialising in 2D and 3D character animation. Providing a thorough grounding in all animation disciplines, this unique and diverse degree produces world-class animators who are at the very top of their field.

The 3D Animation and Game Design program provides intensive hands-on courses by seasoned educators and industry professionals. With small class sizes (usually 14 or less), students engage with knowledgeable faculty who not only continue to engage with industry, but are committed to student success. Students receive personalized support and create a portfolio to prepare them for future careers.

Bachelor in Experimental Animation has a long history of graduating successful animators in art and film including George Dunning who directed The Beatles' Yellow Submarine and Richard Williams who was animation director for Who Framed Roger Rabbit. More recently, alumni include computer animator Trudy Elmore and emerging VR artist Jawa El Khash. Shary Boyle, who represented Canada at the Venice Biennale, has achieved great success with her mesmerizing performances using hand-animated imagery

In our state-of-the-art visual effects (VFX) facilities, including a 3D fabrication studio, a render farm, and a 130-seat screening room, you'll experiment with traditional and emerging techniques, from stop-motion to digital CGI.

The Bachelor of Media Design specialising in Motion Design will teach you the key technical skills such as 2D and 3D animation, visual effects, composition, image manipulation and text choreography.
