Visual and Material Culture Studies is an interdisciplinary program that studies images, objects, and spaces from various cultural contexts and historical periods. Visual and Material Culture Studies shifts away from the interpretation of texts, which has dominated critical discourse for centuries, toward an examination of images, objects, and spaces.

The Department of Visual Art & Art offers a multifaceted experience, preparing students to become leaders in the creation, exhibition, critical understanding, and communication of visual culture in diverse environments. Students are supported to develop unique professional studio practices in sculpture, print media, painting, drawing, photography and interdisciplinary art, working alongside distinguished artists in our studio program and leading scholars in the art history program. Bridging art creation, art history, and curatorial practice, AMPD provides a unique interdisciplinary approach and the most acclaimed facilities in Canada, including Canada’s first Digital Sculpture Laboratory dedicated to the convergence of digital and physical art.

The Visual and Aboriginal Arts program provides professional preparation for careers in the visual arts. The program offers a technical, academic and practical environment for the creative visual process. As a well-rounded education in visual art, it includes studio practice and the exposure to issues, ideas and histories of both Western and Aboriginal art.

The PROFESSIONAL BACHELOR SDS® VISUAL ARTS is a European diploma issued by INSHED. The training allows you to be professionally operational from the start of your career and to benefit from good employability, even beyond your country of origin.

Pursuing a four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts allows students the opportunity to channel and express their creativity and imagination, but also to hone and perfect their skills by learning about past and present techniques.

The eight-month Visual Effects for Film and Television program is a leading provider for training in the dynamic and challenging special effects industry. This is a Houdini-certified school and all other software taught (Maya, Nuke) is the industry standard. You will work on assignments that mirror the practical work you would do at a VFX studio to create a high-quality portfolio.

In the Drawing & Painting program, you'll learn to become a creative and engaged artist. You can concentrate on your painting studio skills and study art theory, history and contemporary social issues. You'll learn to speak and write about your artwork in various formats. A wide variety of options for courses are available that focus in digital, landscape, figurative and abstract painting.
