The course provides students with practical learning aimed at the professional market through a teaching staff made up of PhD professors who have extensive experience in their respective areas of expertise. In the Veterinary Complex, practical teaching, research and extension activities are carried out, as well as clinical and surgical care for small and large animals, complementing the theoretical training provided. Its support structure has three surgical centers, eight outpatient clinics for clinical care, clinical analysis, animal reproduction and preventive medicine laboratories, necropsy and surgical technique rooms, anatomy and microscopy laboratories, fluid therapy room and imaging sector ( radiology, ultrasound and echocardiography), as well as a care yard for large animals, stalls and kennels for the maintenance of animals in the Complex and under care. During the course, the student is encouraged to participate in research activities developed by professors, as well as in technical-scientific cooperation programs maintained with national and foreign institutions, such as the San Diego Zoo, with which the only project in the country funded by the Zoological Society of San Diego. Educational activities are promoted, including courses and lectures to the community on basic care in animal handling, responsible ownership and animal welfare, vaccination and castration campaigns for dogs and cats, projects for the adoption of abandoned animals and veterinary assistance to rural establishments .Professors of the course and students who do scientific initiation make up a research group entitled Structural and Functional Veterinary Pathology, registered with CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development), which develops projects in the lines of research of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases in Domestic Animals and Wild Animals, Experimental Pathology, Veterinary Oncology and Toxicology.
