It’s the key to understanding one another—and the world. After all, a culture expresses itself primarily through its language and its literature. In the Spanish program, you’ll acquire indispensable skills in communication, training in problem-solving, and the kind of understanding of cultures other than our own that is possible only through language. You’ll learn to speak, read and write Spanish as you study phonetics and Latin American or Hispanic history and culture. As a Spanish major, we encourage you to spend a summer, semester, or year abroad, for a truly immersive experience in another culture. A Spanish major is a natural complement to many other areas such as business, pre-law, pre-medical programs or to such fields as English, fine arts, theater arts, history, political science, communication, psychology, mathematics, sociology, or the natural sciences. In our program, you can easily add a second major in Spanish to your studies and still graduate in four years. If you cannot complete a full second major, a minor in another field is very common, as is a language minor to accompany some other primary specialization. You can also study abroad during a summer, semester, or full academic year by applying to the International and Off-Campus Programs Office. Recent graduates have studied in Argentina, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, and Spain.

Psychology is the study of both the mind—how it works and how it fails—and behavior—why we act the way we do and how to shape behavior. Carroll University’s psychology major offers courses in clinical psychology, social behavior, cognitive theory, biopsychology, and neuroscience, which together offer a wide examination of human behavior, from the social animal to the cellular level. Your education will combine theory and practical research. You may find yourself studying what sort of music rats prefer, or how consumer decisions can be influenced by advertising. And you could work one-on-one with a faculty member over the summer on a Pioneer Scholars research project. The breadth of our program is evidenced by three suggested tracks, which allow you to dive more deeply into a particular area of interest with a focus on counseling, organizational psychology, and research. The psychology major easily pairs with a number of other majors, including business administration, criminal justice, animal behavior, and communication, and a double major can be completed within four years. Our location provides students with access to numerous internships with health-related businesses. These enrich your education and also create connections with local employers. That means many of our students walk straight into meaningful careers upon graduation.

The Earth is called the "blue planet" because of the abundance of water covering its surface. However, less than one percent of that is available freshwater, a precious resource we need to survive. Freshwater scientists study the health of freshwater systems—lakes, rivers, streams, ponds, wetlands—gathering critical information such as the impact of invasive species, changing levels of biological diversity, and the effects of climate change and pollution. Their work is at the forefront of finding innovative solutions to the complex challenges facing our freshwater resources. In our unique partnership program, you’ll earn your bachelor’s degree at Carroll and go on to complete your master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in as little as five years. Choose from Carroll's Environmental Science LINK program, which integrates the Earth Sciences, Chemistry, and Ecology with opportunities to customize the curriculum to your interests; or the Biology LINK program, where you’ll focus on living systems, animals, plants, microbes, and human life.

Music can inspire, lead, comfort, and heal. As a music therapist, you’ll use your knowledge and abilities in music to help people live better lives. Music therapy is a fast-growing field and Carroll University is one of only two institutions in Wisconsin offering an AMTA-certified music therapy degree. Music therapy is useful for a wide variety of patients, from infants to the elderly and those suffering from trauma, injury, illness, and disease. It can help reduce anxiety and stress, coax movement, generate social interaction and improve a patient’s quality of life in numerous ways. Music therapists work in diverse settings–from clinics and hospitals to schools and homes. As a middle and high school teacher, you’ll combine your passion for a particular subject with your role as an advocate, collaborator, and leader in the classroom. To prepare for a career teaching in a middle school or high school, you'll combine a secondary education major with one of our subject-focused majors. Carroll University’s secondary education program provides you with the knowledge and skills to be a successful educator in a middle school and high school setting. You’ll study equitable and inclusive teaching practices, the role of inquiry in teaching and learning, and methods for content area teaching. In our secondary education program, you'll major in the subject you want to teach: biology, chemistry, English, environmental science, history, mathematics, political science, psychology, or sociology and obtain licensure as a teacher in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science or Social Studies. You develop depth in your content area, as well as the breadth of knowledge you will need to teach concepts across various grade levels. Carroll education students benefit from strong partnerships with local school districts, which means you’ll have opportunities to observe and assist in real classrooms and build experiences in school settings, beginning before your final year. You will graduate from Carroll with a wide variety of experiences in learning, teaching, and networking, all preparing you to transform education in our schools and communities. The study of biochemistry is an examination of life at the elemental level. It focuses on the processes happening within cells and the structures found inside them. Biochemistry is a combination of biology and chemistry—with a focus on life processes at the cellular and even molecular level. Biochemists work in an ever-growing variety of fields, such as food science, immunology, pharmaceuticals, genetics, agriculture, and environmental science.

Economists focus on how businesses, governments, and other organizations determine the best allocation of limited resources to satisfy people’s wants and needs. They’re analytical thinkers who enjoy digging into the research, gathering data, and studying economic models and theories to predict economic trends, forecast consumer demand, and help solve challenging issues in a global economy.
