The Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology-Pre-P.T. is designed to prepare students to meet the entry requirements for most graduate programs in Physical Therapy including the Hampton University Physical Therapy (D.PT.) graduate program. Additionally, this curriculum provides a solid foundation for graduate study in Athletic Training and other areas in the exercise sciences.

The Bachelor of Arts in Music Pre-Certification prepares students for a career in K-12 Music Education. This program, offered in collaboration with the Department of Music and Performing Arts and the Department of Education, leads to the Master in Teaching Degree, a fifth-year program in Education. The University conforms to the accreditation. The licensure requirements for the Master’s in Teaching (MT) include: completing the required courses, earning the state’s passing score on the Praxis II Examination in Music Content Knowledge, earning the state’s passing score on the Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA), and completing an internship, which is a twelve-week student teaching experience. Praxis Examinations for Bachelor of Arts in Music (Pre-Certification) Majors All Bachelor of Arts in Music (Pre-Certification) Majors must pass Praxis I during the sophomore year and Praxis II during the senior year. The Praxis tests are required for teacher certification and for admission in the School of Education (Praxis I) and student teaching (Praxis II). The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is also a Graduate School admission requirement.

Political Science is the study of politics: government, law, political behavior, public policy, and political philosophy. The Department has a curriculum designed to provide broad, modern training in the study of political institutions and political behavior for students in the liberal arts and for majors who apply for graduate school. The curriculum also features pre-professional training for law, business, public relations, mass media, domestic and foreign government service, education, the military, and sundry roles in politics.

The Hampton University School of Nursing offers the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences at its main campus in two concentrations: Community Health Promotions, Policy, and Administration. The program allows students to gain educational experiences which develop an understanding of their discipline and emphasizes interprofessional collaborative healthcare practices. Students are provided with the background and experiences needed for successful entry into practice and or graduate education.

Chemical Engineering Education is unique for its strong emphasis on building up the ability to apply a system's approach to problem-solving, synthesize useful results, form productive partnerships with other professions, and apply principles from a broad range of scientific disciplines. Completion of the undergraduate Chemical Engineering program at Hampton provides the basis for continuous professional growth or graduate studies in Chemical Engineering, and for admission to professional schools such as medical, law, or business.

The B.S. in Biochemistry is a carefully designed program that combines key topics in biological, chemical, and other sciences to provide the student with an educational experience leading to an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry. This degree program places Hampton University in a rather unique position in two respects: (1) we are among very few institutions that offer an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry; only a handful of other HBCUs offer this degree; and (2) the program provides a suitable medical/biomedical career path alternative for the large number of students who matriculate at HU with interests in health, biomedical and related careers. The American Chemical Society authorizes the department’s chair to certify graduating students who complete this curriculum.

Upon completion of the program, Flight Education students will have earned their private, instrument, commercial, and certified flight instructor certificates as they enter the job market prepared to seek employment as a pilot in the aviation industry. Students with these degrees can go to work in commercial aviation for companies like United Airlines or JetBlue.

The Hampton University School of Nursing Bachelor of Science (BS) in Nursing provides students with a solid foundation for beginning a career as a registered nurse. This four-year traditional program is designed for students who wish to pursue a BS in Nursing as their first bachelor’s degree. Students enrolled in this academic program receive in-depth and comprehensive nursing education and training which provides the essential tools to transition into nursing practice upon graduation.

The Department of Physics offers coursework leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science. The Bachelor of Science degree program is designed to prepare students for graduate studies in physics and for the workforce. Entering students who are not placed in the calculus sequence will follow a modified sequence and may require additional time to complete the selected program of study.

The Department of Biological Sciences of Hampton University offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences. The principal objective of our program is to incorporate the instructional and research expertise of our faculty to provide a scholarly atmosphere where students are exposed to a variety of ways to define, analyze, question, and solve scientific research problems. The Department achieves its mission through curricula structured to enable students to comprehend, analyze and critically assess an entity’s financial condition and optimize its value. The Finance Program is designed to prepare students for careers in corporate finance, investment management, public finance, insurance, and related areas. Instructional techniques include both theory and practical application.

International Studies is a progressive, interdisciplinary major that trains students to work in an in-demand field. Applications are up at professional and graduate schools across the country, and employment opportunities in the public, private, and service sectors continue to grow. International Studies offers concentrations in International Relations or Latin American and Caribbean Studies.

The Creative Writing concentration is for those interested in writing poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, or magazine writing. These courses have all been designed to develop the ability to communicate in a wide range of business, professional, and graduate school settings.
