Our math majors gain a strong foundation in mathematical concepts and learn data analysis, pattern recognition, communication skills, and problem-solving. Students can promote math literacy through the Asheville Initiative for Math and Science Olympiad for grades K-12, or you can join our active chapters of the Association for Women in Math and the Mathematical Association of America. Our Math Lab offers tutoring and a relaxed, quiet study space for students of all majors.

At UNC Asheville, we study religion to explore and understand the many ways human beings have sought to answer questions of existence and meaning. We treat religion as an academic subject that intersects with many disciplines, including philosophy, history, classics, sociology, and others. The department doesn’t advocate for or against particular religious beliefs.

As a psychology major at UNC Asheville, you’ll explore these compelling topics through the scientific study of the mind and behavior. Internships are built into the curriculum, and through the McCullough Fellowship, qualifying students can receive funding to conduct sustainability research in Asheville. Students passionate about leading environmental stewardship efforts can join our Student Environmental Center.

We offer major and minor concentrations in French, German and Spanish, as well as classes in Portuguese and Cherokee. In our department you’ll find a diverse and interdisciplinary group of faculty who have carried out research on five continents and who are dedicated to helping students find ways to understand and engage with the world’s complexities. The computer systems concentration prepares students for graduate studies in computer science and for careers in scientific and engineering applications, systems programming, and software development, while the information systems concentration prepares students for careers in commercial programming, systems analysis and design, and database management. Eligible students can receive funding, participate in research and fieldwork, and gain teaching experience through our Atmospheric and Computer Science Exploratory Scholars (ACES) Scholarship Program.
