The Chemistry program prepares students for industrial or government laboratory work or graduate work in Chemistry or Biochemistry. The Chemistry emphasis provides a strong foundation for students entering the professional health fields, especially the pre-professional programs such as Pre-Medical, Pre-Dental, Pharmacy, and Medical Technology.

The General Studies major is a strong liberal arts program that also provides pre-professional coursework and a strong foundation for graduate-level pursuits. This major offers an extremely flexible focus for a college degree that enables the student to strengthen important skills such as communication, analysis, and problem-solving. In addition, it lets you concentrate on coursework tailored to your interests, passions, and goals.

The General Studies: Natural Sciences & Mathematics program allows a student to develop their own course of study from the different disciplines within the Division of Natural Sciences & Mathematics. Students work with their advisors to tailor the classes in their degrees to match their personal and professional goals. This degree option serves students that need a custom program in preparation for further graduate studies or pre-professional coursework.

The Sport Coaching Graduate Certificate will prepare students with both the technical and tactical knowledge, leadership skills, and decision-making abilities to effectively train athletes physically and mentally while adhering to best practices in competitive ethics. The curriculum is aligned with the National Standards for Sport Coaches and will provide students with principles relative to best coaching practices that can be applied at any level of the sport. Each student will complete a required coaching practicum to align coursework with current coaching practice.

The Mathematics major is characterized by a balance between theory and application, beginning in the pre-calculus sequence and continuing through to upper-division courses. Appropriate technology is integrated at all levels of the curriculum. At the end of the program, students are prepared to enter graduate school or business and industry. Students may also complete courses required for secondary teaching certification.

The Bachelor of Arts/Science in Radiographic Science degree is a four-year program of study. The first year of pre-professional courses includes General Education Core and support courses. Professional courses include study and practice in the clinical application of radiographic procedures for the purposes of imaging all parts of the human body for medical diagnosis. Practice will be in community hospitals and clinics. Upon completion of the Associate of Science in Radiographic Science degree and passing the certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), graduates complete an additional 22 upper-division credits to earn a B.S. in Radiographic Science.

The General Studies major serves a number of student needs: for strong liberal arts programs and for thorough pre-professional coursework. Within the guidelines provided by the program it is possible for a student, in consultation with an advisor, to tailor a course of study that is suited to his or her needs, abilities, interests, or academic and professional goals.

The Computed Tomography program is designed for individuals who have completed an A.S. degree in Radiographic Science and for other healthcare professionals who are licensed, registered, or certified in their respective areas of training. This program includes theoretical content and a clinical internship. The degree program serves as a foundation for graduate and/or further professional study.

The General Studies: Humanities major offers an opportunity to customize a bachelor’s degree program to help students meet their academic goals and prepare for a variety of professions or for graduate school. Students work closely with an advisor to develop an approved bachelor’s degree program that includes depth and breadth in at least four disciplines in the Humanities: Art, Communication Arts, English, History, Humanities, Music, Nez Perce Language, Philosophy, Spanish, and Theatre. This degree can be completed online, face-to-face, or a combination of the two.

The Paralegal program educates and trains students to perform substantive and procedural legal work under the supervision of a lawyer. Paralegals are non-lawyers who assist attorneys in their professional duties. Two options are available in the Paralegal program: a 63-credit AAS degree program and a 30-credit Intermediate Technical Certificate program.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree is a dynamic baccalaureate program with a basic track and completion tracks for currently licensed Practical (LPN) and Registered Nurses (RN). The RN to BSN track is offered in a fully online format with practicum experiences that can be completed in the student's local area. The RN to BSN student will develop and expand knowledge and skills delineated by the professional nurse roles of provider of care, designer/manager/coordinator of care, and member of the profession. Students participate in selected learning activities to further develop an understanding of the art and science of nursing. The program provides an educational foundation for continued nursing study at the graduate level.

Students participate in selected learning activities to develop an understanding of the art and science of nursing. The program provides an educational foundation for continued nursing study at the graduate level. Graduates of the LPN-BSN track are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses NCLEX-RN®.

Communications is an academic discipline that encompasses all forms of human communication. The broad range of communicative skills acquired from the study of this discipline may be applicable to any successful career or activity. Graduates with a degree in Communication Arts enter a wide variety of occupations, including radio and television broadcasting, public relations, technical editing, sales, government and academic administration, and teaching, to name a few. A number go on to graduate and professional schools. This major provides students with an understanding of communication in a variety of contexts (e.g., interpersonal, intercultural, organizational, political, and mass communication) and prepares them to be effective and well-rounded communicators. Participation in co-curricular activities such as public speaking competitions, speech and debate, and as staff for the campus newspaper and radio stations are available to students.

A major in English is useful in jobs where critical thinking, clear communication, and effective writing skills are a priority. Additionally, it is a recognized gateway to graduate study in literature and writing, as well as advanced professional degrees in law and medical school. Students who enjoy literature and are interested in growing as writers will find a major in English an enjoyable and marketable degree. Culminating in a senior project developed in close consultation with one or more faculty members, the major is designed to ensure broad familiarity with major periods and genres of American, British, and international literature, and is a way to study history and human cultures as well. A sense of community is strong among LC State English majors who provide a number of services to the campus community, including staffing our campus Writing Center.

Bioinformatics is a discipline that applies Computer Science as a tool to solve problems in molecular biology. The degree has been developed in collaboration between Computer Scientists and Biologists. Mathematics coursework is also represented, as an understanding of statistics is necessary when working as a bioinformatics scientist. This is truly a unique and interdisciplinary degree.
