The goal of the Department of Automation Engineering is to cultivate students to possess technical expertise in the field of mechatronics automation and production technology automation. After educated in the department, students will have the capability of applying automation technology, robot technology, mechatronics practice, and computer integrated manufacturing technology to practical implementation and innovative design. Students who graduated from the department not only can meet the needs of enterprises and industry but also can develop innovative products and acquire patents by themselves. The research planning and the academic and enterprise cooperation are run by “The Research Center of Automobile and Mechatronic Industry Technology”. First, space and equipment required by “The Research Center of Automobile Technology” is established. During the first stage, the analysis of power and pollution of our scooters and a small-scale gasoline engine is conducted to operate in coordination with the development of EFI jet system for scooter engines, development of substitute fuel systems, and exhaust purifying system, to help manufacturers with the examination of engine purifying. At the same time, the center also helps the Medicine Technology Center to improve the development of “Walcabs” and to ameliorate the performance of the engine used in the fuel-saving contest. Then, inter-field programs such as Precision Engineering, Automobile Machine, and Electricity, Creativity Designing, equipment for the development of robot machines, micro processing, and automatically controlled instruments are also established and installed. After research planning, Teachers are encouraged to transform their achievements into new knowledge for students to learn. On the other hand, teachers are also encouraged to apply a patent for their research achievement to reinforce the concept of Intellectual Property Rights and patents.

The department offers academic programs in Undergraduate and Master levels to assist students in developing knowledge & skills in Information Management & Technologies, Networking Technology & Database Management, and Digital Content. Educational objectives and core competences are carefully revised and enforced in course planning and teaching with specific checklist and assessment mechanisms to improve students' learning, and thus competitiveness in future job market.

The lab is used for the students to practice their skills in designing digital circuit systems. It is also used for internship courses. The lab is under the EDA/SOPC cooperation plan with ALTERA, established a common laboratory, which the dept. has been supported by the industry, such as FPGA, EDA, and SOPC.

Ms. Peng Wenhong, the founder of the Republic of China, founded Wufeng Middle School in Chiayi in 1949. As the school site was occupied by the Chiayi Garrison (now 228 Park on Daya Road, diagonally opposite to Jiazhong, Province), the garrison coordinated with the municipal government to rent out land 3A of Fangcao Farm as the school site. The extension resulted in new students.
