This degree programme is an opportunity to study both Social Policy and Sociology within an interdisciplinary social sciences context. This BSc Sociology and Social Policy programme combines Social Policy, the study of how societies respond to human needs and seek to promote the well-being of their members, with Sociology, which is dedicated to the study of social life as found in groups, institutions and societies.

BA in Social Policy and Sociology Social Policy students learn how to tackle major policy problems. They do this by applying core concepts from social science to intractable social problems such as gender inequality, eldercare, children's rights, and climate change. As an applied and critical social science, you will gain knowledge and understanding of contemporary government policies and consider how we can achieve improvements.

Social and Public Policy is an exciting new opportunity for young people who want to make a difference in today’s world. After its formal acceptance by authorities of the University of Warsaw (see Contact Us), this program will equip students with essential skills and knowledge in political science, social policy, and public policy, and provide them with an understanding of contemporary social and political issues and their determinants.

This degree is focused on the theory and practice of community development. The degree is called ‘social policy’ (for an administrative reason) but the content is entirely on community development. It involves five theory modules on community development (including models of and approaches to community development, ethics, and project management), three modules on research (with a focus on community-based action research), and a whole year module of internship (requiring you to work in a supervised, approved placement for three days a week). This degree articulates closely with the BA in Community Development and Leadership, and together they will lead towards registration as a community development practitioner when community development is professionalized with the SA Council for Social Service Practitioners.

The Social Relations and Policy major explores the domain of public issues that are especially affected by relations among groups. The field is explicitly historical and comparative, looking at social relations in the United States and internationally, over time. Courses focus on the sociology, history, and politics of intergroup relations, paying close attention to the interplay of such factors as class, race, ethnicity, sex/gender, religious belief and national identity. The program uses the study of social relations as a way to cultivate reasoning, methodological and analytical skills and the capacities for empathetic observation, normative judgment and effective problem solving.

In Global Studies we investigate a broad range of cultural, political, religious, economic, and environmental questions that arise when we think of the world as an interconnected whole. This interdisciplinary major will allow you to treat questions that are not limited to one country or region, but to think about your questions from a global perspective. At the same time, we look for ways that global perspectives might change our point of view on local issues of relevance to our community.
