Guided by experienced faculty and community mentors, students earning a Social Justice Studies degree explore the reality and consequences of systemic oppression. They also learn how to respond to those realities and consequences in ways that alleviate immediate suffering and lead to social transformation.

Trevecca’s Bachelor of Science in social justice is an interdisciplinary program with courses in business, law, sociology, social work, science, and religion. Students are equipped with a solid foundation that allows them to help the oppressed and marginalized find spiritual, physical, and emotional restoration. The program combines biblical theology, Christian ethics, and human rights and offers incredible opportunities for hands-on experience and real-world impact through our J.V. Morsch Center for Social Justice.

Our Bachelor’s International Social Work (ISW) program offers students the expertise to become social workers without borders. Placing emphasis on our global interconnectedness, students get a chance to explore local social problems from global perspectives, while also appreciating their local context. Our students learn to connect and empower individuals, groups and communities. We address current social issues, such as migration and refugees, sustainability, child protection, human rights and social development.

A Social Change major from Graceland is a way to give students an education that cultivates and creates a transformative community beyond the walls of the university. The Social Change Major is designed for students in all fields to prepare them to enter the work world as leaders who are enabled to create positive change.

Students in the Social Justice and Human Rights programs examine a wide variety of oppressions such as racism, sexism, heterosexism, anti-immigrant oppression, ableism, economic injustice, animal exploitation, and environmental injustice, as well as related denials of human rights, such as human trafficking, settler colonialism, mass incarceration, use of sweatshop and child labor, unequal access to education, and voter disenfranchisement.

While defining the importance of education, Dr. King also could have been writing journalism’s mission statement. Those principles have not changed. However, in the 15 years of Morehouse’s journalism program, the discipline has become a rapidly evolving multimedia environment that has chopped down the past’s print, broadcast, and photographic silos.

The BS-CJ degree is oriented to pre-service and in-service criminal justice employees, particularly those who wish to be promoted to supervisory and management roles, work in state and federal agencies, or attend graduate school.
