West Liberty University offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education that prepares teacher candidates for content specific certification from grades 5-Adult in General Science. Students must register for EDUC 209 each semester prior to Residency 1. This is a 0-credit course used only for tracking mini-residency field hours.

Disability Studies is an emerging academic field that explores disability and society through the lens of overlapping perspectives, including social sciences, humanities, science, and the law.

The Contemplative Studies minor is dedicated to integrating the art and science of contemplative practices into academic work in order for students to develop self-knowledge, resilience, critical awareness, and positive social engagement.

The Department of Early Childhood Studies offers a major in Early Childhood Studies, a minor in Early Childhood Studies and a Master of Arts in Education with concentration in Early Childhood Education. Students may also use Early Childhood Education courses to satisfy requirements for the Child Development Permit for teachers of California state-funded preschool and after-school programs.

Liberal Studies is an interdisciplinary program composed of a double major for students interested in teaching grades K-8. Most of the coursework in the Liberal Studies portion of the double major is designed to prepare students for the multiple subjects test in the California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET; formerly MSAT or Multiple Subject Assessment for Teachers) required under federal No Child Left Behind legislation.
