NSU’s dynamic, rewarding theatre degree program can be your foundation if you’re considering a professional or semi-professional career in theatre, graduate studies in theatre to participate in dramatic arts at the secondary level, or working with community theaters. As a theatre student, you’ll work toward a liberal arts degree with an emphasis on performance and studio activity. Northern theatre offers opportunities to be involved in several productions each year. You can take part in campus productions and gain experience in acting, directing, stage management, lighting, makeup, stagecraft, and musical theatre. Students study with nationally and internationally recognized faculty who are active performers, conductors, composers, music theoreticians, historians, and music teachers. Admission is based on acceptance to the university and audition. The music program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

The Bachelor of Arts in Music is a liberal arts degree for students seeking a breadth of knowledge and experience. Students pursuing this degree will have a minor in another area as well as study in a foreign language.

Musical Theatre is the fastest-growing major within the performing arts at Carroll. This new major will provide actors with the training needed to become successful "triple threats" who exhibit exceptional abilities in the areas of acting, singing, and dance.

The Film and Video Studies degree is the first multidisciplinary undergraduate degree in Virginia focusing on cinematic arts production and film theory and history with core courses in ethics, business, writing for the moving image, fiction, documentary, interactive storytelling, and episodic television.
