In this program, students acquire an understanding of the general principles of law and gain theoretical knowledge and practical experience in ethics and small business practice.

Access to justice requires well-trained and licensed paralegals to fill the growing demand for affordable services in the legal profession. Centennial College’s Paralegal program will prepare you to excel in the field through strong theoretical and practical courses. The Law Society of Ontario accredits Centennial’s one-year (three-semester) undertaking. This graduate certificate program will make you eligible, upon successful completion of all requirements, to write the Law Society’s Paralegal licensing examination — enabling you to practice as a licensed paralegal in Ontario. Licensed paralegals may represent clients in areas such as summary conviction criminal offences, traffic violations, provincial and municipal offences, tribunals and the Ontario Small Claims Courts. The society of Upper Canada (LSUC) accredits this program. Upon completion, you will be eligible to write the mandatory LSUC licensing examination that is required to practice as a paralegal in Ontario.

Humber’s Bachelor of Paralegal Studies program is the only four-year degree program to receive accreditation by The Law Society of Ontario as an accredited paralegal education program.

The Paralegal Studies minor prepares students for meaningful careers in law-related disciplines. Students are offered a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum based on the fundamentals of the law, especially as it relates to contemporary issues.

The legal studies minor is an interdisciplinary course of study that allows students to examine the role and development of law from different perspectives within a liberal arts curriculum.

The Paralegal program educates and trains students to perform substantive and procedural legal work under the supervision of a lawyer. Paralegals are non-lawyers who assist attorneys in their professional duties. Two options are available in the Paralegal program: a 63-credit AAS degree program and a 30-credit Intermediate Technical Certificate program.

The Bachelor of Applied Arts in Justice Studies takes your career in the justice system full circle. The first two years of this four-year degree program are completed by taking either the Correctional Studies, Criminal Justice – Policing, or Child and Youth Care diploma or through an accepted transfer program.

Our Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Criminal Justice prepares both entry-level and seasoned professionals in the theoretical foundations, knowledge, skills, and criminal justice administration practices inclusive of law enforcement, courts, and corrections.
