Students interested in pursuing a Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree should major in Biology or Chemistry (with a Biology minor). For the best preparation, we recommend a double major in both Biology and Chemistry. Students should review the admissions requirements for the professional schools of their choice.

This programme is based on studies of natural sciences, biology, medicine and basic principles of primary eye care service. The study program has been developed based on more than 25 years of experience in the training of optometrists at the University of Latvia.

The orthoptist is a specialist in the balance of vision that provides, on medical prescriptions, visual rehabilitation in low vision and the treatment of binocular vision disorders such as oculomotor imbalances and neurosensory deficits.
