APU’s Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministries program equips students for practical ministry. They become equipped for professional ministry tasks and relationships by learning about themselves, their theology, and ministry realities. Christian Ministries majors develop a theology of ministry for service in transformational Christian communities in local and global communities.

Upon graduation with a Theology and Youth Ministry major from Thiel College, a student will demonstrate: familiarity with the biblical writings of the Jewish and Christian traditions and with scholarly approaches to interpreting these and other religious texts; the ability to interpret the nature of religious experience, Christian and otherwise, with a level of sophistication appropriate to an undergraduate scholar of religion; knowledge of the key persons, works, and movements from the history of Christianity; and a mature understanding of the interrelatedness of religion and culture.

Bachelor of Science: Major in Ministry Studies - Designed to prepare students for ministry positions, missions, or graduate school. Students can focus their ministry degree on emphases such as preaching and teaching, church leadership, youth, and family education.

Students who complete this program will be equipped to work in various ministry positions related to children, youth, family, and leadership ministry within the local church. A 33-hour core of Church Ministry studies is required and includes a concentration in Youth and Family Ministry.

The degree allows students to complete a broad variety of Christian Studies courses in biblical, historical, and theological areas while concentrating their studies in the area of ministry to which they feel called.

The Bachelor of Arts in Theology and Ministry (BATM) degree is a three-year degree offered to equip students for effective ministry through academic instruction combined with hands-on ministry and personal mentorship that help students attain a fundamental grounding in biblical and theological studies.

This four-year degree is a comprehensive program of training for ministry, with courses in theology, Bible, practical ministry, and general studies. In addition to acquiring a solid biblical and theological foundation, you will also develop the practical ministry and leadership skills essential to effectively give leadership to a faith community.

This program aims to prepare ministry leaders by combining graduate courses in leadership studies (9 credit hours) and biblical and theological studies (9 credit hours). These courses can later be applied to a graduate degree program.

The Ministry Leadership degree program is designed to develop and prepare Christian leaders for vocational ministry and marketplace positions globally. Core Christian Ministry courses provide students with foundational knowledge and skills for effective Christian leadership.

We have a special interest in preparing students for service in the church, including the ordained ministry, parish work, diaconal ministry, social ministry, and ministry in music. Preparation for graduate theological study, ministry, and church occupations includes academic instruction, spiritual maturation, and experiential learning. While you may major in any field, you’re encouraged to emphasize the broadening aspects of the liberal arts, to acquire reading skills in Classical or New Testament (Koiné) Greek, and to study a language likely to be spoken by those whom they may be called to serve.
