The mission of the Health Informatics and Information Management Program is to provide students with specialized training in using information technology to support effective health care administration, innovative health care services delivery, secure patient-centric health care, leadership skills, quality assurance, finance, and legal and regulatory requirements.

The Division of Health Information Management (HIM) is developed in accordance with the stated mission of Southern University at New Orleans and on the belief that the vital information generated regarding health care is needed by the patient, community, health care administrators, medical staff, and other designated recipients.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) aims to provide world-class education and to conduct research in emerging fields of engineering. Health Information Administrators manage people and information. They must supervise others, think logically, understand how systems function and interact, apply business theory for effective work processes, write and speak clearly, and discreetly handle confidential information.

Students who earn Clarion University's 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging Sciences choose between the radiologic technology or ultrasound (sonography) concentration. Both concentrations are designed as two-plus-two programs. The programs have an academic preparation of two years (60 semester hours of science and general education) at either Venango or Clarion campus. The radiologic technology concentration continues with a two-year program of a clinical study (60 semester hours) at one of six JRCERT-accredited, hospital-based schools of radiologic technology. The ultrasound concentration continues with a two-year program of clinical study in sonography (60 semester hours) at the Great Lakes Institute of Technology. Application to an affiliated clinical site in radiologic technology or sonography typically occurs in the second semester of the sophomore year. Clarion also offers an online degree completion option. This option is restricted to individuals who are already credentialed as radiologic technologists, sonographers, nuclear medicine technologists, radiation therapists, or medical dosimetrists and who have completed a properly-accredited educational program. These individuals may conveniently complete the Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging Sciences online degree.
