This pathway provides students with an in-depth knowledge and critical understanding of Islamic studies together with a grounding in education studies, thereby facilitating their career into teaching and the education sector. Please note that this programme does not provide any professional qualifications in teaching and hence students will not qualify as teachers. However, it will support their applications to PGCE routes. Graduates from this course would be encouraged to pursue a PGCE qualification with Newman University or other universities if they wish to qualify with a teaching qualification.

The range of professional job opportunities in Islamic financial institutions is set to increase over the coming years due to the growing international acceptance of Islamic finance and its application in various institutional and organizational settings.

The Department was established in the university in 1986. It started with three sections: Islamic Law (Sharia), Religion Foundations and Islamic Education. As education is linked to the requirements of the job market, the Sharia and Religious Foundations Sections were suspended in 1991, while the Islamic Education section continued. The Department focused its efforts on providing highly qualified cadres in the fields of education and academic research. The Department strategy agrees with the general strategy of the College to prepare professional teachers and qualify specialists educationally and pedagogically. The Department applies this strategy through its annual executive plans, active participation in academic research and community service. In 2011 the Master's degree program in Islamic Education was launched in the department.

The Islamic Business Course includes essential Islamic units of study and builds upon 12 core subjects from the NAPS Bachelor of Business (Accounting). Graduates leave with a thorough grounding in critical business competency areas including accounting, finance, management and marketing, management as well as the principles of Shari’ah law. This gives them a rare, but very sought after combined understanding of both western and Islamic business cultures and practices.

During this four-year HBO Bachelor’s program, students can delve into a wide range of subjects on Islamic Theology.

Zaytuna’s bachelor of arts program is founded on an integrated liberal arts curriculum, consisting of courses from both the Islamic and Western traditions of higher learning. Beginning with the trivium—courses in grammar, rhetoric, and logic—and an intensive study of the Arabic language, students progress through courses in theology, law, history, philosophy, science, and literature, while studying and reading classical texts from both traditions. The program is designed so that courses are taken later both depend and build on earlier courses.
