Catering to students aspiring to study journalism in a diverse and international context, the Bachelor in International Journalism program is meticulously designed with a distinct emphasis on hands-on learning experiences.

The overall aim of our BA Media, Journalism and Culture course is to equip you to become a well-informed citizen in a media-saturated society. Our courses study the many facets of journalism, media, culture and communications, and consider in an era of globalisation and dynamic social change their impact on society, politics and popular culture.

Are you interested in what’s happening in the world around you? Would you like to work in an international environment? The abridged Bachelor in International Journalism programme is a one-year program.

Dive into the international media sector. You will produce cross-media reports, news items, and other journalistic stories for a global audience. In the meantime, you learn all the professional and technical skills you need to become an international journalist. At the end of your studies, (foreign) news and its background will no longer hold any secrets for you. In some of the courses, you will work with students in International Communication Management and International Graphic and Digital Media in interdisciplinary teams, just like in the industry.

The Journalism Major offers three concentrations: Chinese Journalism, International Journalism and Data and Media Communication. The Chinese Journalism concentration aims to prepare students for a career in Chinese-language media, while the International Journalism concentration is geared to those who plan to work for international media that operate in English. The Data and Media Communication concentration, which is jointly offered with the Department of Computer Science, aims to train a new generation of digital journalists with advanced computer skills, notably in data visualisation and analytics. All choices share Major Core and Major Elective Courses dealing with the activities and responsibilities of print, broadcast and internet journalists. Each choice requires bilingualism, but stresses the particular language and professional skills appropriate for the specialisation.

The degree in journalism is offered by the internationally respected Medill School of Journalism. Since 1921, Medill has epitomized excellence in journalism and journalism education in the United States and it is doing the same today in Qatar.
