The curriculum of the BA in International Affairs has traditional strengths in global justice, public policy, European institutions, religion and politics, peace and conflict resolution studies, human rights, and global political theory.

The business workplace is becoming increasingly international. The international relations program is ideal for students who are interested in combining the breadth of global knowledge offered by international relations coursework and the skills acquired in business courses. Students will learn to recognize, analyze and evaluate the role of major players, structures, and processes in business and politics.

International Affairs graduates from JMU are prepared to change the world. This major provides a global perspective on the most important challenges facing the United States and the world today. Students learn to understand the world from a variety of perspectives and have the opportunity to specialize in important global problems and regions. Students develop their understanding of cultural frameworks, foreign languages, international economics and political dynamics. Our vast network of alumni helps students transition to careers in public service and many other fields. These prized abilities serve as a foundation for careers in government, consulting, policy advocacy, business, communications and the non-profit sector. We seek to enhance the quality of public policy and civic life at home and abroad by teaching students, conducting research and collaborating with people inside and outside of the JMU community.

The International Relations major is designed for students who wish to deepen their knowledge and understanding of this multi-disciplinary field. Students receive a solid foundation for a variety of careers in areas such as diplomatic and government service, international organizations, international business, journalism, law, and banking. Many graduates have also chosen to pursue graduate study in related areas.

This major is the first and only program in Hong Kong to focus on the increasingly important Asian region in this Asian age. It strengthens students’ international perspectives. It features opportunities for students to join overseas exchange programs and field trips to different countries in and beyond Asia to broaden their horizons.

Global Studies is a rigorous interdisciplinary program that provides students with the theoretical and practical tools to critically analyze the ongoing processes of cultural, economic, and political change in the world. The major will prepare students for a variety of careers in the international arena as well as for further graduate study programs such as international affairs, international business, and peace studies.

The programme offers a multicultural environment and blends theory with practical application to focus on key global issues like climate change, inequality, conflict and peace, and digitalisation. You’ll specialize in either Security or Sustainability, with options to study abroad or to complete an internship. After graduating, you will be ready for advanced studies or an international career in the public, private, or non-profit sectors.

The Degree Course in International Studies supplies the knowledge and the essential conceptual and methodological tools enabling students to orient themselves in contemporary socio-political reality.

Mason’s global affairs degree is designed for students who are interested in international issues and the global dynamics that affect all societies. You'll look at these subjects through many different lenses, including the political, the economic, and the cultural. Over the course of your education, you will gain a sophisticated understanding of complex issues such as terrorism, refugee crises, global inequality, and health and environmental challenges. Core courses in the major provide the foundation for this understanding. Your choice of a thematic or regional concentration helps you tailor your degree to your particular interests and career goals.
