Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) is a broad-based, liberal arts and sciences major that focuses on developing exemplary skills in written and oral communication, textual analysis, critical thinking, research methods, and the ability to bring a wide range of resources to bear in approaching complex problems. Because it combines knowledge systems across the meta-disciplines of the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences, an IDS major is great preparation for both the workplace and for entry into graduate or professional schools. IDS is part of a national network of Programs for Accelerated College Education (PACE) that are designed for working, adult students who want to earn a bachelor’s degree in a reasonable period of time while they maintain a full-time job. While all admitted students are welcome, IDS/PACE students are primarily transfers who enter CSUDH with 60 units and junior-class standing.

The AI and Language and Intercultural Competence program is a four-year interdisciplinary degree that integrates the study of the societal impacts of Artificial Intelligence technologies with focused study of a specific language and the cultures of the communities who use that language. This program is designed to provide the breadth and depth competencies needed for UB graduates to integrate rapidly evolving AI technologies into the development of computational systems that support the use of languages other than English, meeting the needs of future employers and society at large to develop and refine AI systems and applications that improve the social good.

Students who major in intercultural studies must earn the Bachelor of Arts degree. The major includes 30 semester hours of coursework.

The Bachelor of Arts in Intercultural Ministry Studies degree provides you with the skills to make disciples around the world and across the street. You will gain biblical, theological, linguistic, and practical skills preparing you to effectively share the Good News with others.

The Bachelor of Arts in Intercultural Studies (BAICS) at Texas Baptist College (TBC) aims to prepare its graduates for effective Kingdom ministry all over the world. Specifically, this degree trains TBC graduates to successfully traverse worldwide cultural and religious borders for effective Christian witness in ministry or the international marketplace. Students study topics such as ethnography, worldview, cross-cultural communication, cultural anthropology, and world religions. They further learn the necessary skills to speak a foreign language of their choice and acquire core business knowledge. After approximately two years into the degree, students travel abroad for approximately five months to a selected ministry assignment where an experienced field supervisor oversees the internship and the above-mentioned cross-cultural learning can be applied.

This program is designed for the student who desires to live and work as a disciple of Christ in a multi-cultural world. The student will be prepared to pursue a chosen career in any North American or international cultural or multi-cultural setting.

In addition to courses in the School of Divinity, students will take several courses in disciplines related to sociology and social work, all with the aim of making them more effective in their work in globalized environments.

Within the School of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Africana Studies has, since 1969, been devoted to close interdisciplinary analysis of black experience to support the work of social justice both nationally and internationally.

he Intercultural Ministry Division seeks to guide the student in developing a biblical theology and biblical philosophy of missions and providing practical vocational preparation for cross-cultural ministry, whether at home or abroad.

This program is designed to prepare students to engage in missions work in a cross-cultural or global setting. In addition to the 121 credit hours of academic studies, students are required to fulfill the Leadership in Action requirement.
