The Women’s and Gender Studies Program is a cross-disciplinary program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The program offers students opportunities to analyze issues concerning women, gender, and sexuality in diverse cultural contexts and to investigate a variety of disciplines from feminist perspectives. The field of women's and gender studies creates an understanding that interrelated factors--e.g., race, ethnicity, class, age, disability, gender identity, religion, national origin, and sexual orientation--inform knowledge of women’s history, culture, and social roles.

The Gender Studies undergraduate curriculum provides an interdisciplinary program of study grounded in the liberal arts. Gender Studies students are well-rounded, intellectually curious people committed to social justice. An education in Gender Studies prepares us to live, think, and be agents of change in a complex world.

Lehigh’s undergraduate major and minor in women, gender and sexuality studies is an interdisciplinary field of academic inquiry that critically examines gender and sexuality from an intersectional model that takes into account the manner in which class, race and power co-constitutively shape and impact gendered and sexed identity construction.

Examine the cultural and historical production of sexual difference, the impact of feminist research, and the intersection of gender with race, sexuality, class and colonialism. The Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) program at Washington and Lee University offers students both the opportunity to complete a multi-disciplinary minor in feminist and gender studies, and a stimulating co-curricular environment in which to develop as intellectual and community leaders. Founded in 2001, the WGSS is a vibrant academic program that links the classroom with the world and offers the theoretical basis for activism and social change.

Study the way gender is defined and the evolution of these definitions over time. You'll also explore the roles women have played in the sciences, arts, politics, religion, and other fields. Gender is studied as a social construction that needs to be examined in conjunction with race and class. Culture and history also shape and inform gender roles and experiences, so our program is multidisciplinary in nature. We are an interdisciplinary academic program. Our courses examine the intersections of sexuality and gender in a variety of contexts. We have courses that draw upon the humanities, the social sciences, and the natural sciences. The minor in queer studies gives students competency within a dynamic field of interdisciplinary scholarship related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender lives as well as gender and sexual structures and identities.
