Horticulture & Business Management is about the commercial production of vegetables, fruit, and plants. It’s about international business, technology, innovation, and sustainability.

This is one of the Faculty's longest-standing study programs and one that has evolved continuously over the decades as scientific knowledge is accumulated and environment-friendly technologies are gaining ground. The main aims of the program are: to train professionals who will be able to plan, supervise and organize industrial-scale production processes; to manage tasks related to the preparation, distribution, and storage of products; to undertake specialized managerial core tasks in the horticultural domain; and to set up independent horticultural farms and operate them efficiently.

The Bachelor of Viticulture and Oenology Engineering program offers the opportunity for students to study viticulture and winemaking, including their technological background as well as vine types in Hungary and around the world.

The beginnings of horticultural higher education in Cluj coincided with the establishment, in 1869, of the Institute of Agriculture in Cluj, which today became the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca. In 1977, the Department of Horticulture was established within the Faculty of Agronomy. The development of human resources and of new disciplines and research laboratories within this section allowed the establishment of the Faculty of Horticulture, in 1990.

This level 6 qualification in Horticulture - Commerical gives students an excellent preparation for working in the industry or going on into further higher education courses. The modules give exciting insight into the future of the industry both in the UK and overseas. All students will complete a dissertation and will benefit from the amazing resources and industry links enjoyed at Hadlow College to produce individual dissertations which have been nationally recognised.

Graduates of this course will have first-hand knowledge of practice in the Netherlands, one of the leading EU countries in horticulture and plant breeding.

The Horticulture department carries out a 4-year program to educate students to become agricultural engineer on the open field, protected cultivation, breeding and post-harvest handling of horticultural crops. The program is composed of two years of basic compulsory courses on science and agriculture.

The Crop Production and Technologies program offers its students both technical and practical training based on numerical methods. As with leading universities around the world, the program is in English. Students are offered the opportunity to specialize in plant breeding, soil management, plant protection, horticulture, field crops, agricultural biotechnology. In addition, they will gain experience with internship applications during their undergraduate education.

The mission of the Department is to assist the students on undergraduate and graduate levels to become decisive, hardworking and dynamic agricultural engineers specialized in Plant Protection.
