The BA Program in the Archaeology, History, and Literature of Ancient Greece brings together three collaborating disciplines from the field of Classics; the Program’s multi-disciplinary curriculum, taught by a diverse staff consisting of highly specialized academics and senior researchers, combines the strengths of the three disciplines in a single, innovative Degree: Archaeology, History, Ancient Greek and Latin Literature.

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme consists of 24 courses of which 8 courses are at 100-level, 8 course are at 200-level and 8 courses are at 300-level including 2 x 100-level university courses and 2 x 200-level university courses. Students who enroll in the three-year BA degree programme may take History as a major, a double major, or a minor.

The Bachelor of Arts in History consists of a critical examination of the world's peoples, places, and cultures in the past. Students studying history have the opportunity to work directly with our outstanding, award-winning faculty in close proximity to the Washington state capital, Olympia.

This BA (Honours) in Arts and Humanities (History) degree gives you the freedom to combine the study of different subject areas in the arts and humanities. You'll develop a specialism in history exploring different periods from around 1500 to the twentieth century. You can combine this with a second specialism or choose to develop broader interests in art history, classical studies, creative writing, English language, English literature, modern languages, music, philosophy, and religious studies.

We offer a Bachelor of Arts in History, as well as a Certificate in Public & Applied History, and two Minors: History and Art History. With the Education Division, we also offer Bachelor of Arts degrees in Middle-Level Education Social Studies and Secondary Education Social Studies--History.

The Department of History, in collaboration with the College of Education, offers the premier track to a North Carolina Professional Licensure III status in History and Social Studies.

A careful study of the past helps us better understand the present. History as an academic and professional discipline continually looks for the best ways to help us understand times, people, and places very different from our own. The department offers an undergraduate major and minor in history. It provides history subject matter content for teachers in Liberal Studies and for those interested in pursuing a career as a history/social science teacher, grades 7-12. The program’s curriculum also provides students with the breadth of knowledge and skills necessary to pursue graduate training in history. History majors may apply for the Jack Kilfoil scholarship. The BA Dual Honors is our most advanced arts program. It combines two in-depth training, the first in history, and the other in international studies or intercultural leadership.

The Department of History is composed of 3 areas of specialization: Korean history, Asian history, Western history. A structural understanding of each major period of specialization—ancient, medieval, modern—is promoted through study.

You’ll prepare for multiple career paths that call for clear and logical reasoning, the ability to analyze complex relations between cause and effect, well-developed writing skills, and familiarity with other cultures and historical eras. You’ll graduate proficient in the triumphs and tragedies of humankind through studies in American, European, and world history, and you’ll be prepared to make solid decisions that are grounded in the human experience.

As a student in the international track of the Bachelor's degree programme in History, you search for explanations of events that took place in the past and are still relevant today. You learn about the connections between various developments, and you're encouraged to dig deeper and ask critical questions. The programme takes three years. In the first year, you are given an overview of history from Antiquity to the present day, and you study Dutch history. In the second year, you examine history on the basis of various themes, such as economic and social history, political culture and cultural history. The third year, which includes a course unit on the theory of history, is used to deepen your knowledge. Your Bachelor's programme is rounded off with a thesis. As a history student, you are free to compile part of the programme yourself.

The History B.A. trains students for careers as scholars, teachers, and a variety of rewarding careers in law, government, diplomacy, business, the arts, and administration while allowing them the opportunity to take engaging courses spanning the globe and ranging from the ancient world to the modern era. Students can choose a Major or Minor in History, selecting from a variety of specialties. Students can join a History Learning Community, take part in internships, study abroad while earning history credit, join the honors society Phi Alpha Theta, or the History Club, and apply for scholarships. Advanced undergraduates can join the Honors program in which they write a thesis with the dedicated support of three faculty members, or apply for the History M.A. Early Entry program, which allows students to count classes toward their undergraduate and toward their graduate degree simultaneously.

History remains among the most fascinating and best-loved of the arts and social science disciplines, and this is an exceptional degree which makes the most of our unique West End location. The course is modern, with a focus on British and European history, but there are many opportunities to study American, imperial and global history as well. A distinctive element of the degree is its focus on the extraordinary history of London.
