International Relations and Global Affairs (IRGA) is a unique program addressing these topics. Combining history and political science, economics and law, sociology, and psychology, the program provides a coherent interdisciplinary curriculum that allows students to develop their understanding of how people, groups, countries, and international organizations interact in different parts of the world.

The International Relations Global Studies programme offers a comprehensive understanding of globalisation and its impact on international politics, economics, and society. If you are interested in political geography, international organisations, multinational corporations, or global media, this programme provides the knowledge and analytical skills necessary to navigate the complexities of world affairs. You will explore economic structures, global security challenges, and key actors shaping international relations. Through interdisciplinary study, you will develop critical thinking skills that allow you to assess global trends, interpret major international events, and contribute to discussions on global development.

You will understand the most complex current issues (political, social, economic, cultural, work, etc.) and you will contribute to the construction and improvement of an increasingly changing, globalized, and connected society.

The B.A. in Global Studies is designed to enable students to understand and analyze the global system in the context of a rapidly changing and increasingly interdependent world.

Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) is a broad-based, liberal arts and sciences major that focuses on developing exemplary skills in written and oral communication, textual analysis, critical thinking, research methods, and the ability to bring a wide range of resources to bear in approaching complex problems. Because it combines knowledge systems across the meta-disciplines of the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences, an IDS major is great preparation for both the workplace and for entry into graduate or professional schools. IDS is part of a national network of Programs for Accelerated College Education (PACE) that are designed for working, adult students who want to earn a bachelor’s degree in a reasonable period of time while they maintain a full-time job. While all admitted students are welcome, IDS/PACE students are primarily transfers who enter CSUDH with 60 units and junior-class standing.

Explore how global processes create local outcomes and how local developments change the world. Analyse issues like climate change, migration, exclusion, and justice, and identify how you can be a force for change by developing nuanced responses and solutions.

What does it mean to be a “global citizen”? Does it mean the same thing for anyone, anywhere? Or does it mean different things for different people around the world, including for us in Aotearoa New Zealand? Why are “global perspectives” so important in today’s world and how do we develop them?

Development Studies focuses on international development and the challenges associated with a political and economic change in the international system. The course considers the relationships between the global North and South, examining how colonialism and capitalism have shaped our contemporary world. You will explore global poverty and inequality and the impact of globalisation on different parts of the world, including Africa, Asia, the Middle East, China, India, Central Asia and Latin America.

An essential challenge for businesses in Ireland is how they can connect the capabilities of our workforce to contribute to solutions for people who are largely in markets outside Ireland, across the EU and the wider global community. Business needs graduates who can both understand the fundamentals of how to create value for customers and also how to translate them into solutions and services that fit the needs of diverse cultures.
