The Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in visual arts is a professional degree that equips students with expertise in their area of focus that will better prepare them for graduate school and employment opportunities as an artist within creative industries. The areas of focus in the B.F.A. in Visual Arts are: Ceramics & Sculpture; Digital Arts; Drawing & Painting; Graphic Design; Photography; and Printmaking and Paper Arts. (Please note: the area of focus does not appear in the degree title, and all graduates of the program receive a B.F.A. in Visual Arts.)

Advanced instruction is offered in non-figurative and figurative fine art, including painting, sculpting, and printmaking. Our Sculpture department has one of the largest and most advanced facilities of its kind in North America, and our state-of-the-art printmaking facilities merge traditional tools with cutting-edge technology.

The Art degrees offered by the School of Art, Design, and Art History prepare students to pursue the professional production and exhibition of their own art or more in-depth study at the graduate school level. The art major allows students to develop a visual vocabulary, foster a deeper understanding of the formal visual relationships present in the art and design process, enhance their aesthetic awareness of art forms, and to promote the competency to independently seek further professional growth. The Art major requires 120 credit hours of undergraduate course work, including 78 credit hours in art, art history, and art-related courses. The art faculty is made up of practicing artists who work closely with the students, and students also work closely with each other as they develop their studio practice. Visiting artists and scholars, workshops, field trips and frequent on-campus exhibitions of professional artwork enhance student engagement with contemporary art. Additionally, students have opportunities to exhibit and present their artwork, assist in running on-campus galleries and studio art labs, and to partake in other hands-on art experiences.

The School of Visual Development's BFA program provides a dynamic education in the art of scene-setting. The core curriculum emphasizes photography, figure modeling, form analysis, figure drawing, narrative principles, visual development for animation, character design, concept paintings, advanced exploration of perspective for video game design, and various other critical design disciplines.

The School of Animation & Visual Effects BFA program provides students with the skills necessary to master today’s digital technology. Students choose one primary area of emphasis between visual effects, 3D modeling, 3D animation, 2D animation and stop motion, and storyboarding.
